Job Title: Maintenance Technician – Manufacturing Operations Job Description
This role supports manufacturing operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing production equipment and facility systems. You perform both preventive and emergency maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production. The position requires accurate documentation of maintenance activities and the ability to work flexible schedules in an industrial environment that may include noise, chemicals, high-voltage equipment, and other hazards.
Responsibilities- Perform installation, repair, rebuilding, and maintenance of production machinery, equipment, tooling, and facility systems.
- Diagnose equipment issues, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical failures, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and technical drawings to complete repairs and maintenance safely and efficiently.
- Fabricate and modify parts using machine shop equipment such as lathes, mills, drill presses, and welding equipment.
- Align, fit, and calibrate mechanical components including bearings, shafts, spindles, and feed systems to ensure proper operation.
- Support equipment installations, relocations, and startup activities, ensuring proper setup, alignment, and functionality.
- Troubleshoot basic electrical controls and PLC-related problems to restore and improve equipment performance.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers regarding replacement parts, repairs, and equipment improvements.
- Partner with production, engineering, and other departments to support operational goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and preventive maintenance documentation.
- Use computers and maintenance systems to track work, access technical information, and update equipment histories.
- Operate forklifts, material handling equipment, and company vehicles safely when required for maintenance tasks.
- Train and mentor apprentices or less experienced maintenance personnel to build team capability.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and workplace procedures, including proper handling and disposal of regulated materials and hazardous waste.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in all work areas.
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain powered industrial truck certification.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple maintenance tasks.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and PLC troubleshooting for production equipment.
- Ability to fabricate and weld parts with or without sketches and prints using lathe, mill, drill press, and welder.
- Strong organizational and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with production and engineering teams.
- Comfort with performing physical tasks including lifting, bending, reaching, and working in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including occasional evenings or weekends, and remain reachable for emergency support.
- Commitment to continuous learning and ongoing skill development in mechanics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and fabrication.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment supporting production equipment.
- Familiarity with automotive manufacturing or high-volume production facilities.
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or similar tools to track work and equipment history.
- Ability to communicate clearly with production, engineering, vendors, and team members about technical issues and repair plans.
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor junior maintenance personnel.
- Strong attention to detail in documentation, safety practices, and equipment setup.
- Interest in mobility technologies and contributing to components used by leading automotive manufacturers.
This position is based in a manufacturing facility that supports high-volume production for major automotive programs. You work around industrial machinery, high-voltage equipment, chemicals, and typical plant noise, following established safety and environmental procedures at all times. The role may require flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, and availability for emergency maintenance support. You use machine shop tools such as lathes, mills, drill presses, and welding equipment, as well as computers and maintenance systems to perform and document work. You also operate forklifts, material handling equipment, and company vehicles when needed. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.20 - $40.00/hr.
