Supervisory Medical Information Technician

The Supervisory Medical Information Technician is responsible to the Cardiology Section Chief for the administrative functions of the Cardiology section, relieving him/her of complex administrative matters relating to the section's activities.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans, organizes, develops, and directs the administrative activities and provides leadership to achieve optimum operation of the Section, both internally and in coordination with the Medical Service Administrative Officer and other professional members.
  • Maintains full authority to act for the Cardiology Section Chief in all administrative matters.
  • Coordinates activities of all units within the Cardiology Section.
  • Supervises all technical positions within the Cardiology Section.
  • Provides administrative support functions including developing and implementing control procedures for supplies, payroll functions, equipment, fiscal matters and personnel management in coordination with the Cardiology Section Chief, Administrative Officer and the Chief of Medical Service.
  • Personnel management responsibilities including maintaining liaison with the Cardiology Section Chief, Supervisory Administrative Officer and the Chief, Medical Service, Human Resources Specialists and all Cardiology staff in all areas of personnel administration concerning the Cardiology Section.
  • Trains all technical personnel, including orientation and implementation of continuing medical education.
  • Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for all Cardiology contracts and for Medical Service.
  • Maintains Functional Statements, Performance Appraisals and Competency Assessment records for all technical staff.
  • Responsible for inventory control and budget management including consignments.
  • Coordinates infection control policy for Cardiology section.
  • Coordinates equipment maintenance for Cardiology section.
  • Plans work schedules for technical personnel and ensures that all areas are staffed adequately.
  • Actively promotes the objectives of the Medical Center, EEO/Affirmative Action Program.
  • Coordinates and conducts the Cardiology Section Quality Assurance Program.
  • Muse system administrator.
  • Provides training and/or passwords for the following systems for the Cardiology fellows: MUSE and other cardiology systems.
  • Creates and maintains the documented, standardized New Employee Orientation for all new Cardiology techs.
  • Creates and updates policies pertinent to cardiology service.
  • Assists in coordination of care for device clinic needs and safety alerts.
  • Conducts and manages Cardiology Technical Staff in operation of the following: Electrocardiograms, Holter and Event Monitoring, Regular and Nuclear Stress Testing, MUSE System, Life Vests, Device alerts, Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) is any medical equipment designed by the manufacturer to be reused for multiple patients. All personnel who are involved with the reprocessing of RME are responsible for knowing what reusable instruments, equipment, medical devices or supplies are used (inventory) in their clinical area.

Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday; 7:30am - 4:00pm Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized. Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
