Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Days, Weekdays and Weekends Hours per Shift: 36/48 Hours Guaranteed Experience: One (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Must possess current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: A valid driver's license required Must-Have: Registered Nurse Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing orders, dispensing and administering medications. The RN assists in examinations and treatment of patients. The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques in the care of inmates/residents. The job involves performing all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure. The RN attends sick calls, prepares lists of inmates/residents to be examined, and prepares the examining room and equipment. Responsibilities include operating pill call, dispensing medication, and documenting as required. The RN communicates with medical providers for medication and treatment orders as necessary. The RN examines and assesses new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries. Referrals to emergency care facilities are made as required by the conditions. Emergency procedures are performed as needed, and the RN notifies the medical provider for treatment orders. The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services from contracted personnel. It is important to maintain a good working relationship with facility staff and nursing staff. Established corporate and facility policies are utilized for decision-making. Regular evaluations of medical services are made to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of those services. Absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records must be maintained. The RN assists in reviewing medical files to ensure services are documented. Close monitoring of potential catastrophic illnesses is required. Audits of pharmacy use for adherence to formulary are performed as directed. All pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances, must be complied with. The RN observes and records inmate/resident behavior. Inspections of the medical unit for contraband items are conducted. Health counseling and education are provided on an individual or group basis as required. Various standard records, reports, and logs must be prepared and maintained accurately. The RN reads and interprets medical and technical procedures and legal documents. Participation in lawsuits may be required, including attending court hearings. Facilitation of accreditation through providing required levels of efficiency in medical services is part of the role. Safety and accident reports are prepared as required. Appropriate action in cases of serious incidents and emergencies must be taken.
