Provides forensic consulting services requiring petroleum/mechanical engineering expertise for insurance, legal, industrial, and other clients. Evaluates industrial equipment assessments and failures, injuries, and related property damage claims. Provides oral and written reports of findings and, when needed, expert testimony.
Performs forensic assignments within the field of petroleum/mechanical engineering expertise based on a scope of work and budget prepared by the consultant and agreed upon by the client in advance of performing the work. Investigates how and why an incident occurred and determine whether it resulted from equipment failure or other root causes. Inspects sites/products/equipment; performs analysis of equipment; documents site/product conditions, determines cause and origin of damage; performs site surveys; performs engineering calculations; prepares CAD-based and manual sketches as required; orders and evaluates required laboratory testing and performs analyses. Initiates, develops, and maintains mutually beneficial client relationships.
B.S. Petroleum/Mechanical Engineering degree or higher. P.E. required and the ability to obtain additional professional registrations in other states. 7+ years of industrial experience with oil and gas producing companies, oil and gas service companies or oil and gas drilling companies. Field experience in an industrial environment is required. Project management experience preferred.
Must have a high level of analytical skills. Work requires continual attention to detail with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid scientific conclusions. Must have a background in drilling, completions, workover, production and hydraulic fracturing operations. Other areas of expertise include safety management, basic knowledge of oil and gas equipment and engineering economics. Must have experience in state and federal technical regulations, including ASME, API, ANSI, NFPA, and OSHA codes and standards. Must have experience in oil and gas site-safe work practices. Must be able to interact and communicate with clients at all levels (e.g., internal and external). Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Applications and computer-assisted engineering and design software. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings, common scientific and technical reports or journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write scopes of work clearly and coherently, budget estimates, schedules, reports of findings, proposals, general correspondence, and other technical documents. Ability to respond to inquiries from internal and external clients. Ability to manage, schedule, and execute multiple ongoing projects. Ability to collaborate with other engineering and scientific disciplines on complex matters. Capable of effectively presenting information to top management, clients, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Physical Demands - Work is performed in an office setting and outdoor locations (i.e., incident sites). The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings, and testifying in deposition or trial. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary. Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position. Travel Requirements - This position requires up to 25% travel. Some out-of-area and overnight travel will likely be required.
