This role involves assessing pediatric patient health, administering emergency treatments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care for children and adolescents. The Pediatric ER RN demonstrates advanced clinical skills, effective communication with children and families, and adherence to the highest standards of patient safety, ethics, and professional excellence in emergency situations.Essential Work Functions:Explain emergency procedures and treatments to pediatric patients and their families in an age-appropriate manner to foster understanding and alleviate fearAdminister prescribed and emergent medications and treatments in accordance with approved pediatric nursing techniques and emergency protocolsPrepare and operate pediatric-specific emergency equipment, assisting physicians during treatments, procedures, and examinationsEnsure the comfort and safety of pediatric patients in the emergency setting, employing age-appropriate techniques and minimizing distressPerform pediatric vital sign assessments, using tools such as Broselow tape for weight-based measurements, and respond promptly to deviations from normalRespond promptly to pediatric emergencies, such as respiratory distress, trauma, or cardiac arrestAccurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the medical recordsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, and social workers, to provide comprehensive careCollaborate with families to develop and implement care plans that address the unique needs of pediatric patientsParticipate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing pediatric patient care and outcomesPerform other duties as assigned within the scope of practiceAdhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standardsRequired Essential Skills:Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skillsThe ability to read, write, and communicate in the English languageAbility to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skillsPhysical Abilities - Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bendInterpersonal Skills - Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalismTechnical/Motor Skills - Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipmentMental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure.
