We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to support day-to-day financial operations for a government organization in Indio, California. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who brings strong accounting fundamentals, accuracy in transaction processing, and a customer-focused approach when handling payments and payroll-related inquiries. The role will contribute to accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, billing support, and record maintenance while helping keep financial activities organized and timely.

Responsibilities:
• Process incoming invoices, confirm appropriate account coding and approvals, and prepare payments in accordance with established timelines.
• Record customer payments, maintain receivable balances, and communicate with account holders regarding past-due amounts or payment questions.
• Support billing activities by entering financial data accurately and helping resolve discrepancies in charges, postings, or account records.
• Assist with bank and account reconciliations to identify variances and maintain accurate financial balances.
• Provide month-end accounting support through record review, document organization, and preparation of information needed for reporting.
• Maintain orderly financial files and respond to audit or documentation requests by gathering and verifying required records.
• Help with payroll-related tasks for a small employee population, including payment handling and paycheck support.
• Deliver customer service related to financial transactions by answering questions and directing issues for timely resolution.• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounting support, bookkeeping, or finance assistant role.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice coding, and payment posting practices.
• Experience performing bank or account reconciliations with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Familiarity with payroll support processes, including assisting with paychecks for an employee group under 100.
• Proficiency in Excel and accounting software used for transaction entry, tracking, and reporting.
• Ability to manage high-volume data entry and maintain organized financial documentation in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and customer service skills when interacting with internal staff or members of the public regarding payments and account questions.
