Chief Information Security and Privacy Officer

Position Summary

Chief Information Security & Privacy Officer (CISPO) reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Information Technology Services & Chief Information Officer and leads the Information Security Office at Fayetteville State University.

Responsibilities

• Oversee information security governance, risk, compliance (GRC), policy, training, incident detection, and response.
• Ensure alignment with security and privacy standards and manage breach recovery.
• Collaborate with IT staff and campus departments to address security needs.
• Provide GRC oversight, operational security, budgeting, strategic planning, and vendor management.
• Work closely with Legal, Audit, Risk, and Compliance (LARC) and other campus divisions.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
• At least five years of progressive responsibility, including supervising staff and leading security teams.
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Experience with COBIT, ISO, ITIL, CMS, NIST, and other relevant standards.
• Working knowledge of the policy and regulatory environment of information security in higher education.
• Strong written and oral communication skills to influence stakeholders.

• Ability to meet scheduled deliverables and commitments while juggling multiple projects.
• Knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and services.
• Experience setting up, maintaining, and securing Windows operating systems.
• Experience setting up, maintaining, and securing Unix operating systems.
• Analytical problem determination and system specification analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• More than five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in multiple areas of information security.
