Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for an Emergency Department position requiring an active IL RN license and at least 2 years of recent ED experience.

Details

• Work in a 24-bed Emergency Department with 6 bays and 5 Fastrack beds within a 205-bed hospital
• Facility is a Level II NICU and Primary Stroke Center with no trauma designation
• Average of 120 patients per day spanning neonates to geriatrics, including 10-12% pediatric cases
• Patient types include chest pain, syncope, respiratory/cardiac arrest, stroke, sepsis, ortho, STEMI, and COVID cases
• RN patient ratio of 1:4-5 (5th patient low acuity), including ED boarding patients within ratio
• 12hr night shift schedule (1900-0700) with 36 standard hours per week
• Weekend rotation with no set pattern, requiring flexibility to work any day of the week
• Schedules are built in 4-week blocks and provided 2 weeks in advance
• No floating required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• One holiday required per year (one summer, one winter)
• Support includes 24/7 RT coverage, charge nurse, unit secretary (day shift only), mobility aide, and ED educator (M-F)
• Uses Epic EMR, with Alaris and Pyxis equipment for RN use

Requirements

• Active Illinois RN license in good standing
• Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience in a community or acute care setting
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS (AHA)
• TNCC certification preferred
• Proficiency in EMR documentation, Epic preferred
• Strong IV skills, cardiac rhythm interpretation/monitoring, foley and NGT placement/management, and ventilator management experience
• Knowledgeable in STEMI, CVA, and sepsis treatment protocols with medication titration experience
• Ability to function independently with minimal orientation
• Strong assessment, critical-thinking, and prioritization skills in high-acuity, fast-paced settings
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate's middle name/initial, date of birth, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across a wide range of emergency conditions including trauma, cardiac, respiratory, and stroke cases
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, NPs, PAs, and support staff
• Orientation consists of one shift, including 4 hours with the unit educator followed by precepted unit time
• Scrub color requirement: Navy Blue for RNs
• Free parking provided on-site
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position
• Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
• Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
• RTO requests must be coordinated directly with the ED Nurse Manager and ACM
