The Speech & Language Pathologist will evaluate, diagnose, and treat students with speech or language disorders, formulate individualized treatment programs, keep appropriate records, and inform faculty and parents about students’ progress. Essential duties include classroom instruction; conferences with students, parents, and colleagues; and active participation in curriculum development, activities, and pedagogy within the department. Qualifications Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license (Speech Language and Hearing Disorders – Grades: All levels) CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology) issued by ASHA CFY-Clinical Fellow Year Knowledge of current education legislation and regulations Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children to solve problems Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders Belief in increasing personal growth, both academic and social–emotional, for every student Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assess students to determine eligibility for speech and language services Regularly assess students receiving services per IEP guidelines and needs Monitors progress and needs of pupils with speech or language disorders and determines/develops goals and objectives Meet with students regularly according to the treatment program schedule and maintain records of progress Write student IEP progress reports and goals Attend and participate in IEP meetings as required Report progress to appropriate staff and meet with them regularly to discuss evaluations of students' skills in class performance and social interaction Report progress to parents and meet with them regularly; suggest activities parents can do to supplement the program Complete evaluations on a regular basis to measure progress per professional guidelines Provide learning experiences guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards while creating a conducive learning environment Differentiate instruction and provide opportunities for learning using the RTI framework Implement the district’s mission, philosophy of education, and instructional standards and objectives Document progress and/or concerns and seek assistance from additional district specialists when needed Monitor and supervise students through effective classroom management Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement Utilize innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including effective use of technology, to increase student learning and confidence Follow professional practices consistent with district policies when working with students, parents, and colleagues Attend and participate in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings per school policy Maintain and improve professional competence through professional development and self‑generated activities meeting district expectations and recertification requirements Assist administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct, develop reasonable classroom rules, and maintain order fairly Establish open communication with students, colleagues, and parents concerning academic and behavioral progress Promote equity and diversity, implementing strategies for students with special needs, 504 plans, or second language learners Perform other duties assigned by the building principal/assistant principal Reports to: Principal/SPSA/Director of Special Education Evaluated by: Principal/SPSA/Director of Special Education Terms of Employment/Salary/Work Year: As negotiated by the Fitchburg School Committee and the Fitchburg Education Association (FEA).
