The University Police Department is actively recruiting experienced, lateral, out‑of‑state, military, and recently retired law enforcement officers for University Police Officer 2 positions serving UNLV and the Nevada System of Higher Education. Department Information University Police Department, Southern Command, is a fully accredited, full‑service law enforcement agency serving: University of Nevada, Las Vegas College of Southern Nevada Desert Research Institute Nevada State College The department includes: Patrol operations Detectives division Full‑service 9‑1‑1 Communications Center K‑9 unit Motors unit COPS unit Emergency management and large‑scale event coordination Officers serve a vibrant and diverse community across an 800‑square‑mile service area supporting over 80,000 students, faculty, and staff. Required Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of law enforcement experience; or Associate of Arts degree or equivalent coursework in criminal justice, police science, psychology, or closely related field and six months of law enforcement experience; or one year of experience as a University Police Officer I in Nevada State service. See Special Requirements and Informational Note Pursuant to NRS 284.406 6, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment must submit to a pre‑employment screening for controlled substances. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Applicants may be subjected to psychological testing which may include polygraph testing. Applicants must meet minimum standards for appointment as a peace officer as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
