Position Summary:
The Facilities Mechanic performs skilled maintenance, repair, and installation work in the upkeep of buildings, systems, and equipment across the campus. This position ensures all facilities operate efficiently, safely, and in support of the Academy’s educational and residential mission. The Facilities Mechanic works both independently and as part of a team to maintain a clean, functional, and safe environment for cadets, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform general maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of campus buildings, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, mechanical, and structural systems.
Conduct routine inspections of facilities and report potential issues before they escalate.
Respond promptly to work orders and emergency maintenance requests, ensuring timely and quality resolutions.
Clean, lubricate and replace worn parts on heating and ventilation equipment.
Assist with preventative maintenance schedules for building systems, equipment, and vehicles.
Support seasonal operations including snow removal, grounds upkeep, and event setup or teardown.
Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.
Follow all safety, environmental, and OSHA guidelines, using personal protective equipment as required.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time expended.
Assist contractors or vendors working on-site, ensuring compliance with Academy standards and safety policies.
Maintain and repair commercial kitchen and laundry equipment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of general building maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Ability to diagnose and resolve maintenance problems effectively.
Skill in operating a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery safely.
Working understanding of preventive maintenance and work order systems.
Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently or collaboratively on multiple tasks.
Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer service mindset.
Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and adherence to Academy policies.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building or facilities maintenance preferred.
Technical or vocational training in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical systems highly desirable.
Valid driver’s license required.
HVAC certification, boiler license, or related technical credentials preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, push, or pull at least up to 50 pounds regularly.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb ladders for extended periods.
Exposure to varying weather conditions and occasional work in confined spaces.
Work Environment:
The Facilities Mechanic works in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments across the Academy’s campus, including academic buildings, dormitories, dining facilities, and athletic areas.
Work may involve exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes.
$18 - $18.5 per hour
