Energy Systems Data Engineer

The energy transition depends on reliable, scalable energy storage. As renewable energy continues to transform the global power system, battery storage is playing an increasingly critical role. Our mission is to help maximise the performance, safety, and longevity of battery systems through advanced software and data analytics. As an Energy Systems Data Engineer , you will combine hands‑on experience with energy hardware systems ideally Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with strong analytical and software engineering skills. You'll work with operational data from real‑world energy assets, transforming complex datasets into valuable insights that improve system performance and reliability. This role is ideal for someone who understands how energy systems operate in the field and enjoys building robust, production‑quality software that delivers real business value. Key Responsibilities Analyse operational data from battery storage systems, including battery modules, racks, inverters, and energy management systems, to identify trends, anomalies, and potential failure modes. Develop and improve KPIs and performance metrics that provide asset managers and operators with actionable insights into fleet health and system performance. Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to translate analytical findings into customer‑facing features. Develop well‑tested, production‑ready software solutions that integrate seamlessly into the company's data platform. Work alongside data engineers and energy specialists to validate analytical models against real operational conditions. Support customer discussions by providing technical expertise during system integrations and helping understand site‑specific operating environments. Your Profile 2–5 years of professional experience working with energy hardware systems, ideally Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), in an engineering, operational, or analytical capacity. Strong Python and SQL skills with experience writing maintainable, production‑quality code. Ability to extract meaningful KPIs from large operational datasets, supported by a practical understanding of energy systems and time‑series data (e.g. SCADA, EMS/BEMS, inverter logs). Solid software engineering practices including testing, code reviews, version control, and maintainable development. Experience working effectively within cross‑functional engineering teams. Excellent written and spoken English. Nice to Have Experience with cloud‑based data platforms such as AWS, Apache Spark, or Databricks. Direct experience working on utility‑scale or commercial battery energy storage projects. We recognise that no candidate will meet every requirement.
