SPECIAL EDUCATION (SPED) PARAEDUCATORLOCATION: Merit Preparatory AcademyDEPARTMENT: Special EducationREPORTS TO: Special Education DirectorTERM: 10 months, August–May (calendar determined annually by Merit and the School Board)COMPENSATION: Starting at $14/hour, depending on education and experiencePOSITION SUMMARYA Special Education Paraeducator, under general supervision, provides assistance to a classroom teacher/special education teacher, performing a variety of tasks relating to the physical and instructional needs of students in a classroom setting. The paraeducator assists in the implementation of instructional programs, including self-help and behavior management, as well as instruction.The Special Education Paraeducator performs related duties as required or assigned.QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGEHigh school diploma required1–2 years of experience with students or adults with disabilities preferredSome post-high school education preferredESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESCarries to completion, in a timely manner, instructional and supportive activities as assigned by the supervising teacherWorks with special education students, which may include lifting, feeding, and other servicesREQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIESThe requirements listed below are representative of the skills, abilities, and demands required.
