TITLE: Accountant - PropertyREPORTS TO: Associate Director of Accounting-Property ManagementDEPARTMENT: AccountingSTATUS: Full-timeFLSA STATUS: ExemptWAGE RANGE: $78,696 - $85,640 annuallyGRANT FUNDED: NoUNION POSITION: YesLOCATION: 145 Taylor Street, San Francisco CA 94102SCHEDULE: Hybrid 3 days onsite; 2 days remoteSUMMARYUnder the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Property Accounting, the Property Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting of a portfolio of properties. This includes all rental transactions, month-end closing, general ledger account analysis, reconciling interfund accounts, reconciling bank accounts, performing internal audits, preparing audit schedules and other related accounting duties of the organization.ESSENTIAL DUTIESFinancial Operations & ReportingPerform full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of properties, including all revenue, expense, and general ledger activitiesPrepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and variance analysesComplete month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring adherence to established deadlines and reconciling schedulesPrepare and submit required financial reports to lenders, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholdersAccounts Receivable & Tenant AccountingOversee accounts receivable functions, including tenant billing, subsidy postings, and rent collectionsReconcile tenant sub-ledgers and ensure alignment with the general ledgerReview and post rent payments, including electronic and check-based transactions (e.g., Yardi Checkscan)Monitor tenant accounts and aging reports; research and resolve discrepanciesTrack resident move-outs and ensure accurate, timely processing of security deposit refunds in compliance with regulationsReconciliations & General Ledger ManagementPrepare and review monthly bank reconciliations and resolve outstanding itemsReconcile all general ledger accounts, including intercompany/interfund accounts, on a monthly basisPrepare and post journal entries with clear documentation and audit trailsEnsure financial data integrity across systems and reportsCompliance, Controls & AuditsEnsure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and internal controls, as well as affordable housing regulations (e.g., LIHTC, HUD, or other applicable programs)Perform periodic internal audits to assess accuracy and compliancePrepare audit schedules and support external auditors during annual auditsEnsure internal financial statements align with audited financial statementsCollaboration & Cross-Functional SupportPartner with Property Management and Leasing teams to ensure accurate rent rolls, occupancy data, and billingProduce and present financial statements and other key reports to Housing Development team for new propertiesCollaborate with Asset Management on financial performance, budgets, and operational insightsProvide financial data and support for grant reporting, lender compliance, and regulatory submissionsServe as a key accounting liaison to Property Management and provide guidance or training on financial systems (e.g., Yardi)Cash Management & AnalysisMonitor property-level cash flow and ensure proper recording of intercompany transactionsAssist in identifying cash needs, funding requests, and operational variancesSupport budget tracking and financial performance analysisOther ResponsibilitiesContribute to process improvements and system efficiencies within the accounting functionMaintain organized and complete financial records and documentationREQUIRED SKILLSKnowledge and skills:Proven ability to follow directions and work independently.Proven ability to efficiently reconcile balance sheet accounts.Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.Ability to create various financial reports, identify unusual activities, and propose corrections.Knowledge of double–entry accounting, financial statement preparation and account analysisStrong understanding of monthly close proceduresPhysical Requirements:Ability to operate office equipment such as personal computers and calculators.Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, and fingers in performing word processing, writing, reading, and similar tasks.Ability to lift 15-20 pounds.Visual acuity is necessary to review documents.Hearing acuity sufficient to use telephone and communicate with tenants, and staff.Ability to perform sedentary to light physical work involves sitting most of the time.Environmental Adaptability:Ability to work in an office environment.Ability to travel to various work sites as needed.Mathematical Ability:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals, ratios, percentages, and fractions.Ability to calculate weights and measures.Language and Communication Ability:Ability to comprehend and correctly use informational documents includingAbility to communicate effectively with residents, coworkers and staff at all levels, residents, government officials, both verbally and in writing.Ability to keep abreast of changes in policy, regulations, methods, operations, etc. as they apply to compliance and occupancy procedures and activities.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in accounting or finance1-2 years’ accounting experience, preferrable in property or affordable housing accounting.Strong understanding of General Accepted Accounting PrinciplesPrior experience contributing to auditsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of residential property management, building, systems, and housing quality standards.Knowledge of Asset Management functionsKnowledge of Tax Credit, HUD, SFHAKnowledge of report writingProficient in Microsoft Excel and Yardi Voyager (or similar property management/accounting software)Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.In compliance with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance (August 13, 2014), all qualified applicants with criminal histories will be considered for the position. #J-18808-Ljbffr
