General Manager — Iconic Independent Hotel Cain Partners has been exclusively retained to appoint a General Manager for one of the world's most iconic independent hotels. A true Hollywood institution, the property has been at the centre of Los Angeles' cultural landscape for almost a century. Small, intimate and entirely distinctive, it has long been a discreet home to some of the world's most recognised names across film, music, fashion and the creative industries. This is a rare opportunity to lead a hotel with genuine cultural significance and a character that cannot be replicated by a brand or written into a standard operating manual. The Role On paper, the position is General Manager. In practice, it is much closer to an MD-level role for the property, with full responsibility for its operational, commercial and cultural performance. You will lead the entire hotel operation across rooms, F&B, engineering, security, valet and the wider guest experience, working closely with ownership and senior stakeholders. The role requires someone who can protect what makes the hotel special while bringing strong commercial discipline to the operation. You will need to be comfortable owning the numbers — P&L, labour, forecasting, rate strategy and F&B contribution — while understanding that the hotel's character, discretion and guest experience are equally important measures of success. A new CFO is also being appointed as part of a wider focus on financial discipline across the business, making this an important time to join and help shape the next chapter of the property. The Person We are looking for a proven hotel operator who is comfortable taking ownership and making decisions rather than relying on layers of corporate process. Ideally, you will have: Proven experience as a General Manager, Hotel Manager or MD with full P&L responsibility Experience within an independent, luxury, lifestyle or highly distinctive boutique hotel A strong rooms background, ideally with genuine understanding across front office, housekeeping, valet and wider hotel operations Strong commercial and financial understanding, with the ability to improve performance without compromising the character of the property Experience leading a highly discerning or high-profile clientele where discretion is fundamental The confidence to work directly with hands-on, unconventional ownership and make sound decisions independently Strong judgement, presence and the ability to step beyond a traditional job description when the business requires it LA or wider West Coast experience is advantageous, although relocation will be considered for the right individual This is unlikely to suit someone looking for a conventional branded hotel environment. The right person will be commercially sharp, operationally strong and culturally aligned with an independent property where character and judgement matter as much as process.
