Payroll Accountant

Responsible for supporting accurate and timely payroll processing across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with federal and state labor laws, and maintaining payroll-related accounting records. Main Responsibilities Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teams Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies Process multi-state payroll accurately and on schedule, ensuring compliance with applicable labor regulations Collaborate with HR and operations/project management teams to gather, verify, and input payroll data Review and validate employee payroll records, including benefits deductions, garnishments, and tax information prior to payroll processing Support payroll compliance reporting and audits, including unemployment insurance audits and regulatory reviews Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a professional and timely manner Provide support for system implementations, testing, and upgrades as needed Assist in maintaining payroll-related general ledger accounts and performing reconciliations Assist with the preparation and filing of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports and taxes Submit certified payroll reports to the appropriate state agencies in accordance with regulatory requirements Monitor and reconcile employee benefit accruals and deductions against the benefits tracking worksheet to ensure accuracy and completeness Assist with interim and year-end audits and support year-end W-2 process to ensure accuracy and timeliness Education Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience) required Valid Driver’s License and clean driving history Skills Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Programs (Word, Outlook, Excel) Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage confidential information with integrity Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Ability and desire to expand knowledge and grow within the accounting function Preferred: 2+ years of payroll or general accounting experience in a construction or similar complex, multi-state environment (or equivalent combination of education and experience) Preferred: Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) or similar ERP systems Physical Requirements Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required Regularly communicate (talk and hear) to support safe coordination, instruction, and teamwork in the work environment Regularly required to perform tasks that require visual acuity to review information, inspect materials or equipment, and ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance in work performed Regularly sits for long periods at a desk using a computer to perform administrative, planning, and reporting responsibilities Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle, and manipulate objects, write, and use a keyboard and/or mobile device to complete daily administrative and communication tasks Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 35 pounds with or without assistance to handle materials, tools, equipment, or documents essential to the role Rarely works in environments that may include loud noise, moving equipment, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor conditions depending on operational needs Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime; overnight travel may be required Benefits and Perks Choice of 3 Medical Plan Options Dental and Vision Plans Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Options Access to Telemedicine and Healthcare Advocacy Services Life and AD&D Insurance Disability Insurance Paid Time Off and Paid Holidays 401(k) Savings Plan with Company Match Product and Service Group Discount Programs The information contained herein is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of the job, nor are they intended to be an all-inclusive list of the skills and abilities required to do the job.
