Health, Safety and Environment Leader - Low Complexity

We are looking for a talented Health, Safety, and Environmental Leader to join our Cummins Inc. team in Elkhart, IN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

• Champion a proactive health, safety, and environmental culture that protects employees, operations, and surrounding communities.
• Lead site-wide HSE programs and initiatives that drive compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement.
• Identify hazards, environmental aspects, and compliance gaps to strengthen operational performance and prevent incidents.
• Develop and execute strategic HSE objectives that align business priorities with regulatory and corporate requirements.
• Influence leaders and employees to adopt safe, sustainable work practices that improve workplace outcomes.
• Drive data-informed decisions through analysis of HSE metrics, audit findings, and performance trends.
• Coordinate incident investigations and corrective actions to address root causes and prevent recurrence.
• Foster organizational capability through training, coaching, and cross-functional collaboration that strengthens HSE performance.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

College, university, or equivalent degree required. Health, Safety and/or Environmental degree preferred. Professional certification in HSE-related field preferred.

Expectations:

Intermediate level of experience required, including experience in management of health, safety and environmental ISO Standards required. Minimal management experience preferred.

Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Key Competencies:

• Proven experience applying HSE principles and programs, with a preference for candidates who possess 4-5 years of relevant Health, Safety, and Environmental experience.
• Lead implementation and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems in alignment with Cummins standards and applicable regulations.
• Partner with site leadership and cross-functional teams to establish strategic priorities, performance targets, and sustainable improvement plans.
• Utilize risk assessment methodologies to identify hazards, prioritize mitigation activities, and strengthen operational controls.
• Apply incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques to drive effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor and evaluate HSE performance metrics, audit results, and compliance findings to support informed decision-making and strategic planning.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees by promoting safe behaviors, environmental stewardship, and regulatory awareness.
• Support contractor safety, emergency preparedness, pollution prevention, injury and illness management, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
• Build strong working relationships with regulatory agencies, internal stakeholders, and external partners while maintaining documentation and reporting requirements.
• Demonstrate a strategic mindset, sound judgment, and the ability to manage complexity while balancing business and compliance objectives.
• Preferred experience supporting ISO-based Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems and continuous improvement programs.
• Preferred professional certification in an HSE-related discipline.
• Preferred ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members while fostering trust, accountability, and engagement.
