Assistant Professor in Evolutionary Biology, School of Life Sciences
UNLV Foundation
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Professor in Evolutionary Biology, School of Life Sciences [ R0153361].
Starting in Fall 2027
ROLE of the POSITION
The School of Life Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Evolutionary Biology. The ideal candidate will establish an integrative research program that investigates the processes and drivers of adaptation using modern experimental, genomic, and/or computational approaches, including adaptation to extreme or rapidly changing environments. We are particularly interested in researchers exploring a mechanistic understanding of how non-genetic processes, such as epigenetic regulation, interface with genetic variation to effect phenotypic variation and adaptation.
The candidate will be expected to integrate their research program with the mission of the School of Life Sciences and to collaborate with existing faculty across multiple areas of expertise, including local adaptation and speciation; host–microbiome and plant–pest coevolution; and organismal physiology in extreme environments. Additional collaborative opportunities exist in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The University's location in the Mojave Desert also offers opportunities to study adaptation in a natural extreme-environment system, though research need not be tied to any particular study system or environment.
The successful applicant is expected to establish a rigorous research program supported by extramural funding, generate peer-reviewed scholarship, mentor and advise graduate students, teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels (focus on evolutionary biology, epigenetics, molecular ecology, or mechanisms of adaptation) and engage in service activities.
