To support student's communication skills in all educational settings.

Certifications/Qualifications:

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate as Teacher of Speech and Language Impaired, or
• Master's Degree with Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Job Functions:

• Demonstrated ability to handle and resolve conflict productively.
• Exhibit proficiency with utilizing technology.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Provide a thorough assessment and student's communication skills.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, REED meetings, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings.
• Provide recommendations regarding student eligibility for Speech services and develop goals and objectives for students eligible to receive special education services.
• Work with students, parents, teachers, and others in establishing and implementing a special education program in the least restrictive environment as identified by the student's IEP.
• Develop and provide services on Non-Public Service Plans.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individual therapy plans based upon IEP goals and objectives.
• Assess student growth and provide progress reports as required.
• Maintain, prepare, and process the district's required documentation, which includes but is not limited to: record of therapy service and consultation, individual student progress data, individual student case management, and Medicaid.
• Knowledge regarding assessment and implementation of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
• Establish and maintain colleague relationships with institutions, referral agencies, classroom staff, itinerant staff, and parents: maintaining and encouraging effective communication among these groups regarding student's needs.
• Provide in-service training and coaching to educational staff, community organizations, and parents.
• Serve as a resource person/consultant to the classroom teacher and administration; participate as an education team member.
• Make appropriate referrals to other disciplines and agencies.
• Support with the provision of services and support with relevant agencies (e.g. referrals, equipment, physician scripts).
• Adhere to the standards of practice of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association.
• Other duties as assigned by the Associate Superintendent of Special Education.

Evaluations: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Certified Staff contract.
