Position Summary
PG&E is seeking a Senior Risk & Compliance Consultant to join the Visual Management & Insight Services (VMIS) team within Electric Risk and Compliance. In this role, you will develop risk and compliance insights grounded in power systems engineering, electric reliability, and operational risk to help leaders understand reliability, safety, reliability, operational, and regulatory risks; identify what is driving those risks; and determine the actions needed to improve performance and reduce exposure.

This position requires the ability to synthesize operational, compliance, regulatory, asset, engineering, and performance information into clear, decision-ready insights. The role connects power system conditions data, field realities, regulatory expectations, and control performance, and mitigation progress to identify emerging risks, explain root drivers, assess mitigation effectiveness, and support decisions that strengthen electric reliability.

The successful candidate will bring strong analytical judgment, structured problem-solving, and effective communication skills to translate complex power systems, risk, and compliance topics into practical recommendations for risk owners, business partners, and leadership teams. Success requires curiosity, attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to manage deadlines while maintaining quality, credibility, and data integrity.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $102,000.00

Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $127,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $152,000.00

 

Minimum Base Salary (California) $97,000.00

Mid Base Salary (California) $121,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (California) $144,000.00

Responsibilities
Risk & Compliance Insight Development

• Develop insights that explain where compliance, reliability, asset, and operational risks exist, what is driving those risks, and how controls, mitigations, commitments, or corrective actions are reducing exposure.
• Translate quantitative and qualitative inputs, including power system conditions and operational performance indicators, into clear risk narratives that identify implications, tradeoffs, decision points, and recommended actions.
• Support leaders and risk owners in prioritizing actions based on materiality, reliability impact, regulatory significance, urgency, power system implications, and the effectiveness of existing controls.

 

Reliability, Risk & Performance Insights

• Analyze compliance, asset, operational, event, engineering, and performance information to identify reliability themes, emerging risk signals, and areas requiring management attention.
• Connect leading and lagging indicators to explain risk movement, operational performance, mitigation progress, containment needs, countermeasure effectiveness, and potential impacts to electric reliability.
• Help determine whether current actions are reducing risk, improving reliability outcomes, and addressing underlying drivers rather than symptoms alone.
• Apply power systems engineering judgment to interpret risk trends, asset performance, system impacts, and reliability implications in support of risk-informed decisions.

 

Collaboration & Decision Support

• Partner with Compliance, Governance, Operations, Risk, Regulatory Affairs, Engineering, Asset Strategy, and Data & Tools teams to gather input, validate assumptions, and align insights with stakeholder decisions.
• Support cross-functional discussions by bringing forward risk observations, reliability implications, engineering considerations, open questions, and potential actions.
• Work with risk, compliance, engineering, asset, and commitment owners to accurately represent risk exposure, control effectiveness, mitigation benefits, system impacts, and performance trends.

 

Quality, Governance & Continuous Improvement

• Validate the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and traceability of information used in risk and compliance insights, including engineering assumptions and reliability-related inputs.
• Maintain documentation of metric definitions, data sources, assumptions, calculations, and interpretations to support defensible, audit-ready conclusions.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen compliance maturity, improve risk detection, enhance reliability learning, and reduce recurring issues through better insight practices.
• Support continuous improvement by connecting risk and compliance insights to corrective actions, reliability improvement opportunities, and lessons learned from operational performance.

Qualifications
Minimum

• Bachelor’s degree in any of Management, Risk and Insurance, Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; or equivalent experience
• Five years of experience in risk or compliance management, utility operations or related field

 

Desired

• Advanced degree or academic research background in electrical engineering, power systems, optimization, machine learning, data analytics, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience applying power systems engineering, reliability analysis, resilience planning, or operational risk methods to support safe and reliable grid performance.
• Experience developing or applying optimization, stochastic programming, machine learning, graph-based modeling, or other advanced analytical methods to evaluate complex electric system risks.
• Experience analyzing cyber-physical, operational, asset, regulatory, or reliability risks in electric utility, energy, infrastructure, or similarly complex technical environments.
• Experience using analytical, statistical, optimization, machine learning, programming, or data visualization tools to validate, analyze, and communicate risk and compliance information.
• Strong oral, written, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to synthesize complex technical, regulatory, operational, and analytical issues into easy-to-understand concepts.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines while maintaining quality, accuracy, judgment, and documentation discipline.
