Senior Vice President of Finance and Accounting

A growing, entrepreneurial organization is seeking an experienced Senior Vice President of Finance & Accounting to lead enterprise-wide financial operations. Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive will oversee accounting, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, capital markets activities, and support for investor relations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on financial leader with extensive experience in commercial real estate and hospitality accounting, multi-entity financial management, and large-team leadership. This individual will establish accountability, strengthen internal controls, improve financial systems and processes, and ensure accurate and timely financial deliverables across a diverse portfolio of commercial properties, hospitality assets, affiliated entities, and third-party managed businesses. The SVP will collaborate closely with executive leadership and business unit heads to drive financial discipline, manage complex transactions, optimize cash flow, and support strategic business decisions. Key Responsibilities Commercial Real Estate Accounting & Finance Lead accounting operations for a diverse commercial real estate portfolio, including construction accounting. Oversee senior leaders responsible for property accounting and treasury functions, ensuring appropriate staffing and operational efficiency. Manage corporate and property-level cash management, liquidity, and effective use of funds. Review monthly financial statements to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across the portfolio. Oversee property-level investor distributions, ensuring timely and accurate payments. Partner with property management teams to resolve complex accounting issues and maintain accurate financial reporting. Establish appropriate accounting methodologies for complex transactions, including interest rate swaps, tenancy-in-common (TIC) structures, and 1031 exchanges. Lead quarterly cash flow forecasting and annual planning, with particular attention to year-end financial requirements. Hospitality Accounting & Treasury Provide strategic and operational oversight of hospitality accounting teams through direct management of senior accounting leaders. Oversee financial operations across multiple hotel portfolios, including owned and third-party managed properties. Manage cash flow, liquidity, debt service, lease payments, and owner distributions across multiple entities. Review monthly financial statements, identify discrepancies, and ensure timely resolution of financial reporting issues. Maintain strong financial controls and consistent accounting practices across hospitality operations. Enterprise Payroll, Benefits & Retirement Plans Oversee biweekly payroll processing for a geographically dispersed workforce across multiple business units, including hospitality, corporate, and field operations. Lead implementation and optimization of the UKG (Kronos) Workforce Management platform, supporting the transition of payroll and related HR functions. Oversee employee health and welfare benefits administration across multiple employee populations and plan options. Supervise administration of the company's 401(k) retirement plan, managed through Fidelity. Support retirement plan investment strategy and fiduciary oversight. Coordinate annual retirement plan audits and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and fiduciary requirements. Work with external CPAs to prepare and file Form 5500 with the Department of Labor and IRS in accordance with ERISA requirements. Executive Leadership & Financial Strategy Lead, develop, and manage a sizable accounting and finance organization. Establish performance expectations, accountability, and consistent execution of financial deadlines. Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, reporting processes, and financial systems. Partner with executive leadership on financial planning, capital allocation, debt and equity relationships, and complex real estate transactions. Collaborate with tax and risk management leadership on tax planning, compliance, insurance and enterprise risk matters. Support investor relations and provide financial insights to guide strategic decisions. Qualifications Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or a professional qualification such as CPA or CMA. Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification required. Extensive senior-level financial management experience in commercial real estate, hospitality, or related industries. At least 10 years of experience in tax accounting, commercial accounting, hospitality accounting, and payroll management. Strong knowledge of multi-entity accounting, property-level general ledgers, real estate finance, valuation, and investment analysis. Expertise in partnership accounting and complex real estate tax and transaction structures, including 1031 exchanges and TIC transactions. Demonstrated success leading, developing, and managing large finance and accounting teams. Experience with cash management, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills. High standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct. Ability to work on-site in Walnut Creek, California. Compensation & Benefits Annual salary of $200,000-$230,000+, depending on qualifications and experience.
