Seasonal Part Time – SDSU Bookstore Cashier Sales Associate Compensation: Pay Rate $18.00 per hour Overview The Cashier’s role is to ensure every customer is served in a friendly, professional, and timely manner. Responsibilities include greeting customers, processing purchases through the POS system, and providing excellent customer service. Responsibilities Receive payment by cash, credit card or gift card. Scan merchandise and ensure pricing is correct. Assist management in daily operations to ensure procedures and guidelines are followed. Resolve customer issues and complaints for satisfaction. Maintain a balanced drawer. Answer inquiries, provide information, and interact with customers according to guidelines. Greet all customers in a friendly manner and offer assistance when needed. Assist with stocking/restocking inventory and replenishment of bookstore items. Assist at offsite selling locations, providing the same customer service experience. Maintain clean work areas and tools/equipment. Use interpersonal skills to build customer confidence. Maintain positive working relationships with customers and coworkers. Assist other departments as needed. Develop and maintain working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and university personnel. Ensure compliance with company policies and federal, state, and local laws. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Education: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED). Experience: At least one year of retail or customer service experience. Related experience and/or advanced training or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide). Ability to read, write, and understand English. Reasoning ability and common-sense application. Manual dexterity to use equipment and utensils. Physical ability to operate cash registers, stand for prolonged periods, and lift up to 35 pounds. Supplemental Information Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs, including opening, mid‑day, closing, night shifts, weekends, and holidays. Background Check Information A background check will be conducted after a conditional offer and must be completed prior to beginning work. The check includes education and employment verification, criminal records, national sex offender registry, references, and, if applicable, credit report, motor vehicle report, and professional licenses.
