Governance Lead - Infrastructure Automation

Mission Bridge Partners is teaming up with a growing technology services company seeking a Governance Lead – Infrastructure Automation to establish the technical governance framework, reference architectures, standards, and policies that guide infrastructure automation across a complex hybrid environment.

This is not a traditional compliance-only governance role. We’re looking for someone who understands how infrastructure automation is designed, developed, secured, reviewed, and operated and can establish practical standards that engineering teams can consistently follow.

You’ll work closely with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) developers, platform engineers, security teams, architects, and customer stakeholders to ensure automation is consistent, secure, auditable, maintainable, and aligned with federal requirements.

This position is remote and contingent upon successful contract award.

What You’ll Do



 

• Establish and maintain the governance framework, technical standards, and reference architectures governing infrastructure automation across the platform.
• Develop reference architectures and reusable patterns for infrastructure provisioning across cloud and on-premises environments.
• Define and publish automation development standards, including coding practices, naming conventions, repository structures, documentation requirements, and code-review guidelines.
• Establish a comprehensive governance taxonomy covering automation standards, policy-as-code, state management, drift management, security controls, exception handling, and change management.
• Develop standards for policy-as-code enforcement and pre-execution policy validation using platform-native or comparable policy engines.
• Develop and maintain policies aligned with applicable federal security requirements, NIST guidance, FISMA, FedRAMP controls, and customer requirements.
• Define standards for infrastructure state management, desired-state tracking, drift detection, reporting thresholds, and automated remediation.
• Establish requirements for protecting authoritative state and configuration data, including locking, encryption, access controls, and immutable audit trails.
• Facilitate governance reviews and work across engineering, security, operations, and customer teams to drive adoption of established standards.
• Develop governance metrics, dashboards, exception-management processes, and reporting for program and senior leadership.
• Maintain technical governance documentation and update standards as program requirements, technology, and lessons learned evolve.

What We’re Looking For



 

• Experience establishing or leading technical governance frameworks for infrastructure automation, cloud platforms, DevOps, or Infrastructure as Code environments.
• Strong understanding of automation governance, including policy enforcement, technical standards, exception management, change controls, metrics, and reporting.
• Experience developing or governing reference architectures, engineering standards, automation patterns, or platform standards used across multiple teams.
• Experience working in federal or similarly regulated environments, with knowledge of NIST guidance, FISMA, FedRAMP, and federal IT/security requirements.
• Ability to translate security, compliance, and operational requirements into practical technical standards that engineering teams can implement.
• Experience facilitating governance or technical review boards and communicating technical standards, risks, exceptions, and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Strong written communication and technical documentation skills.
• ITIL v4 Foundation or higher, or ability to obtain the certification before starting.
• Relevant experience may come from platform engineering, DevSecOps, cloud governance, infrastructure architecture, developer/platform enablement, technical evangelism, security engineering, or IT governance. We’re particularly interested in candidates who can bridge the gap between governance requirements and the engineers responsible for implementing them.

Preferred Qualifications



 

• CISSP, CISM, or comparable information security certification.
• Hands-on familiarity with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code technologies.
• Experience with policy-as-code, automated compliance validation, or cloud governance tooling.
• Experience with hybrid-cloud or multi-cloud infrastructure environments.
• Experience driving adoption of technical standards across multiple engineering or delivery teams.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be a U.S. citizen based on applicable customer, contract, and/or system-access requirements.
• Be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust/Suitability determination.
• Hold ITIL v4 Foundation or higher, or be able to obtain it before the start date.
• Reside in the United States and be able to work remotely, with occasional travel to the customer site as required.
