Summary Puget Sound VA Medical center is looking to fill Advanced Medical Support Assistant position at the Mount Vernon, WA Community Based Outreach Clinic. Responsibilities The Advanced Medical Support Assistants provide administrative support to our clinical colleagues in the care of our Nation's Veterans. AMSAs are essential to the success of this mission and may be assigned to any department/service line of the medical center that have a need. Duties will include but are not limited to: Determines health care eligibility for Veteran patients. Performs administrative processing of Veteran patients in enrollment, benefits, and registration. Counsels Veteran patients regarding entitlement enrollment for health care benefits and other special programs. Obtains essential information and documentation from Veteran patients for enrollment activities. Performs scheduling functions for Veteran patients including appointments, cancellations, and re-scheduling. Facilitates communication between Veterans and other facility consult departments Supports of inpatient units and wards with administrative duties during day, evening, night, and weekend shifts. Processes and record keeping of inpatient medical records. Performs manual and electronic data entry. Collation of statistical information. Entry of Physician orders and consult requests. Prepares Veteran patient statistics. Provides reception to incoming and outgoing customers and communication. Utilizes Microsoft Office software to compile data and formulate reports Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). At the GS -6 grade level education cannot be used as a substitution for the above specialized experience. Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below: 1. Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g. medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met. 2. Ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations. 3. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing, with internal and external customers. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns. 4. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process (including, but not limited to, scheduling across interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community models and patient health care portals) as it relates to access to care. 5. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow, and patient support care administrative functions to include, but not limited to appointment cycles, outside patient referrals, follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc. 6.
