Job Title: RN II-SDU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Step Down Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 6 months of cardiac step-down or telemetry experience within the last 2 years preferred. License: Current RN license in the state of practice required. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required. NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required within 6 months of hire. Must-Have: Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred. Successful completion of Basic Dysrhythmia Course preferred. Completion of Critical Care Course preferred. Description: Responsible for planning and provision of nursing care in the step-down unit. Accurately interprets ECG rhythms and manages care during life-threatening emergencies. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel. Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations. Competent in routine nursing skills including medication administration and intravenous therapy. Care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains are required. Ensures safe use of medical equipment in critical care settings. Understands and follows the chain of command per policy. Verifies alarm settings with Monitor Technician according to policy. Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and makes recommendations for monitoring. Possesses skills in care and management of patients post coronary interventions. Employs proper clinical judgment in managing cardiac step-down and telemetry patients. Initiates a multidisciplinary care plan in collaboration with healthcare team members. Documents education provided to patients and/or families appropriately. Evaluates the effectiveness of care performed. Completes timely documentation of nursing care provided. Performs necessary safety and quality control checks on the unit. Identifies opportunities to improve care, services, and unit operation. Open to change and new approaches to problem-solving. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Commits to safety and well-being of associates and patients by complying with vaccination requirements. Participates in necessary training and certifications. Follows all organizational policies and procedures.
