Director, Wet Lab Engineering

Generate Biomedicines seeks a Director of Wet Lab Engineering to lead a multidisciplinary team developing novel instruments, automated workflows, and integrated systems that combine laboratory hardware with software, computation, and AI to accelerate protein therapeutic discovery.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and grow a multidisciplinary team of hardware, optical, and microfluidic engineers
• Shape vision and strategy for autonomous laboratory operations integrating instruments, robotics, software, and AI
• Guide development of novel assays, automated workflows, and integrated experimental systems
• Partner with biologists and drug discovery teams to translate engineering into practical experimental capabilities

Requirements

• Deep expertise in at least one physical engineering discipline (hardware, optics, microfluidics, automation, or robotics)
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across diverse technical domains
• Technical breadth and judgment to recognize excellent engineering and integrate systems holistically
• Strong interest in biology and drug discovery with ability to partner closely with scientists
• Experience developing or leading development of experimental instruments or automated laboratory systems
