Job Title: Medical Surgical/Telemetry Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour night shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: Minimum 18 months Med/Tele RN experience required License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months Med/Tele RN experience; BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: We are seeking a dedicated Medical Surgical/Telemetry Nurse. The unit has 35 beds with an average census of 22 patients. Patients typically include general Med/Surg cases, stroke, CHF, COPD, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, post-surgical needs, and behavioral health conditions. The nurse-to-patient ratio is generally 1:5-6, based on patient acuity, but may increase to 1:7-8 during surge staffing. LPN support is available at a ratio of 1:5, and CNAs are provided at a 1:10 ratio. Required skills include post-operative care, orthopedic experience, and management of TPN and PPN. Nurses should possess a strong general Med/Tele skillset, including NIH stroke assessments and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Responsibilities also cover PIV starts, trach care, NGT placement, and the management of drains and tubes. Medication management includes cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids. Support within the department includes CNAs, hospitalists, intensivists, and telemetry monitoring. Floating may be required to other units and facilities within scope of practice as needed. The schedule includes every other weekend and holiday expectations, requiring travelers to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays.
