Kenai Peninsula College is looking for excellent student workers in the Academic Advising Department. Advising Desk Peer will greet new students, answer phones, answer general questions about advising at KRC and make appointments for the Academic Advisors. This position acts as the main contact for general public accessing advising information and advising appointments. Must be reliable, punctual and maintain professional demeanor. Possible other duties assigned depending on skill level. The Advising Desk Peer should demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills, including the ability to greet and assist students, answer phones, take messages, and schedule appointments. The position requires the ability to make limited independent decisions and assess student needs related to advising, financial aid, appeals, and advisor scheduling. The Advising Desk Peer must maintain a secure database and routinely handle sensitive and confidential student information. Knowledge of University policies and procedures is necessary to effectively direct students to appropriate campus resources and services. The position also assists students with accessing and utilizing UA Online, Blackboard, Degree Works, Webmail, the KPC website, Registration, and Schedule Planner. When appropriate, the Advising Desk Peer provides limited peer-to-peer advising to help manage student volume when an advisor is not strictly required, using individual judgment and following established department policies and guidelines. Minimum Qualifications Enrollment Requirements During the academic year, undergraduate students must be taking at least 6 credits, graduate students must be taking at least 5 credit hours, international graduate students must be taking at least 9 credit hours, and international undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credits. GPA Requirements Students must have and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA to be employed as a student employee. Work Schedule Restrictions While classes are in session, students may work up to 20 hours per week. FERPA training on an annual basis. Extensive training and knowledge regarding campus procedures and having demonstrated knowledge regarding knowledge of other departments within the campus is preferred. Previous training and experience is preferred and strongly favored. Position Details This recruitment is open to undergraduate students only. This position is located at the Kenai Peninsula College (KPC) in Soldotna, Alaska. This is a part-time student assistant 1 position, starting at $11.64/hour. This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
