At Automated Logic, a Carrier Company, we provide a work home for seasoned experts. As a Lead Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Field Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical authority for the execution and commissioning of complex PLC-based control systems.

You will lead high-risk and mission-critical system startups, resolve the most complex controls and integration challenges, and provide technical leadership to project teams and less experienced Field Engineers. The Lead PLC Field Engineer is expected to take end-to-end technical ownership of complex systems and serve as a primary escalation point for PLC programming, industrial networking, controls integration, equipment operation, and commissioning issues.

Key Responsibilities

·       Serve as the lead PLC Field Engineer for the first Sullivan, Indiana project, providing technical ownership from mobilization through startup, commissioning, and customer acceptance.

·       Provide daily onsite responsibility for Sullivan, Indiana project execution, field coordination, startup support, commissioning readiness, and issue resolution.

·       Serve as the senior technical field authority for complex PLC-based control projects.

·       Lead end-to-end execution from field mobilization and I/O checkout through startup, commissioning, integrated testing, and customer acceptance.

·       Program, commission, troubleshoot, and optimize advanced Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix PLC systems.

·       Diagnose and resolve highly complex PLC programming, controls, electrical, instrumentation, network, and equipment issues.

·       Develop and modify complex PLC sequences, interlocks, perm

·       issives, alarming, fail-safe strategies, and equipment control logic.

·       Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of significant or recurring system failures.

·       Lead industrial network troubleshooting involving Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP, Modbus, BACnet, remote I/O, VFDs, instrumentation, HMIs, BAS, SCADA, and third-party systems.

·       Review PLC architecture, network architecture, I/O design, control drawings, sequences of operation, and commissioning documentation.

·       Lead first-of-kind equipment startup and integrated systems testing on complex or mission-critical projects.

·       Partner with Project Managers, Field Supervisors, engineering teams, customers, commissioning agents, and equipment manufacturers to assess and mitigate technical and schedule risks.

·       Serve as the technical escalation point when project teams cannot independently resolve system issues.

·       Establish and reinforce field standards for PLC programming, software backups, revision control, commissioning, documentation, and quality.

·       Mentor and develop T2, T3, and T4 PLC Field Engineers.

·       Lead technical training and support development of standardized PLC training programs.

·       Provide technical guidance and lessons learned across multiple projects and teams.

·       Communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

·       Maintain accountability for quality, system performance, commissioning readiness, and customer commitments.

·       Travel as required to support critical project execution, startup, and commissioning activities.

Required Qualifications

·       High School Diploma or GED.

·       4+ years of professional experience in Controls,Industrial Automation, HVAC, Electrical Systems, Information Technology or Industrial Networking.

·       Must possess a valid, current Driver’s License and be insurable by the company’s insurance carrier.

·       Ability to lift items up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as squatting and climbing for extended periods.

·       Capable of working over 8 feet above grade and proficient in the use of ladders and motorized lift equipment.

·       Ability to travel up to 50% based on project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Bachelor's Degree, Associate Degree, or Technical School Certificate in Automation, Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls, HVAC, or related discipline.

·       Expert-level proficiency with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Studio 5000, and associated Rockwell Automation technologies.

·       Advanced understanding of Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP, VLANs, managed networks, Modbus TCP/IP, BACnet/IP, and industrial communications.

·       Advanced experience integrating PLC systems with BAS, SCADA, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, packaged equipment, and third-party systems.

·       Experience leading PLC commissioning on large-scale data center or other mission-critical infrastructure projects.

·       Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and their relationship to PLC control sequences.

·       Demonstrated technical leadership, mentorship, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving capabilities.

·       Ability to lead multiple simultaneous technical challenges involving multiple engineering disciplines.

• Advanced experience programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems.
• Demonstrated expertise with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial networking and system integration.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex startup and commissioning activities.

Pay Range

The annual salary for this position is between $64,500.00 - $129,500.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate. The pay range will not be below the minimum wage applicable to the jurisdiction in which the applicant is to be employed.

Other Compensation

This position may be entitled to short-term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.
