The impact you will have: As a Lead Fleet Maintenance professional in San José Unified, you will provide leadership and technical expertise to ensure the district’s vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready to support daily operations. You will oversee and coordinate maintenance work, guide team members, and ensure repairs and preventative maintenance are completed efficiently and in compliance with all safety regulations. As a Lead Fleet Maintenance, you will be responsible for (but not limited to): Leading and coordinating daily fleet maintenance operations to ensure vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for use. Performing and overseeing diagnostics, inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on district vehicles, including buses, trucks, and service vehicles. Assigning and prioritizing work, ensuring tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner. Guiding, supporting, and reviewing the work of team members to maintain high-quality standards. Ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, including state and federal transportation and inspection requirements. Maintaining accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities. Coordinating parts, supplies, and external services needed for repairs and maintenance. Monitoring fleet condition and recommending improvements or preventative strategies to reduce downtime. Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Communicating effectively with supervisors, team members, and stakeholders regarding fleet status and needs. What you need for this position: Completion of 12th grade or equivalent California Class Bdriver's licensewith passenger and air brake endorsements Commercial Medical Certificate Air Brake and BIT Inspection certifications Diesel Engine Repair – 3 years experience Resume and Letter of introduction outlining desire and qualifications for this position Roles Available: Transportation Department 1.0 FTE - 40hrs./week - 10:00am - 7:00pm 12-Month Position SB 848 Child Safety & Employment Disclosure Requirement Effective January 1, 2026, in accordance with California Senate Bill 848 (School Employee Misconduct/Child Abuse Prevention Act), applicants for employment with San José Unified are subject to enhanced child safety, training, and employment disclosure requirements.
