The Inspection & Testing Supervisor leads all first-article, in-process, final, and receiving inspection activities at Abrams Airborne Manufacturing, as well as oversees the testing processes required for part inspections. This is a working supervisory role requiring hands-on technical proficiency alongside team leadership. The Inspection Supervisor ensures all inspection and testing activities comply with AS9100 Rev D, applicable customer requirements, and internal quality procedures. This role is accountable for the accuracy, traceability, and timeliness of inspection records and nonconformance documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection Leadership

• Supervise, schedule, and mentor a team of mechanical inspectors, test technicians, and receiving inspectors
• Perform hands-on dimensional and visual inspection of machined, fabricated, and assembled parts using CMM, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and other precision measurement equipment
• Oversee in-process and final inspection operations to ensure product conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements
• Lead receiving inspection activities to verify incoming materials, parts, and purchased components meet purchase order and quality requirements
• Review and approve inspection, testing and related records

Testing & Measurement Systems

• Oversee all functional and mechanical testing activities conducted by the test technician, ensuring tests are performed per applicable test plans and specifications
• Maintain the calibration program for all inspection and test equipment; ensure equipment is within calibration and records are current and traceable
• Evaluate and disposition nonconforming material; initiate nonconformance reports (NCRs) and coordinate with engineering and production on dispositions
• Identify and escalate systemic inspection or quality escapes to the Quality Assurance Lead

Process & Compliance

• Enforce workmanship standards and inspection procedures consistent with AS9100 Rev D requirements
• Support internal and external quality audits by providing objective evidence of inspection activities and records
• Participate in PFMEA reviews to provide inspection-side input on detection controls
• Maintain inspection area organization, cleanliness, and FOD (foreign object debris/damage) controls
• Train and develop inspection team members on equipment use, documentation practices, and quality standards

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

• 5+ years of mechanical inspection experience in an aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing environment
• Proficiency with CMM operation and programming; fluency with hand gauging, optical comparators, and surface plate inspection methods
• Solid working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
• Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management system requirements
• Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred
• U.S. Person status required (ITAR-regulated environment)

Preferred:

• Experience with nonconformance documentation and material review board (MRB) processes
• Familiarity with NetInspect or similar customer quality portals
• IPC or WHMA-A-620 inspection certification a plus
• AS9100 internal auditor training a plus

Essential Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods since this role may require occasional visits to the production floor to observe processes or gather data, candidates should be able to stand or walk for periods of time in a manufacturing environment.
• Fine motor skills and manual dexterity required for tasks such as data entry, handling documents, and using various analytical tools or equipment that may be part of cost analysis processes.
• The ability to read and interpret detailed data, charts, spreadsheets, and technical information on computer screens and paper documents. This includes viewing production processes and materials closely during audits or assessments.
• Ability to Lift and Carry up to 20 Pounds: Though not a physically demanding job, occasional lifting and carrying of equipment, files, or documents may be required, especially during onsite reviews or when working with production related materials.
