Medical Staff Associate - LPN/LVN/EMT/Paramedic

Responsibilities Evaluate donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures. Administer and supervise approved immunizations other than red blood cell immunizations. Provide limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including administration of medication or treatments as per licensure or certification. Promote positive customer relations with all donors. Conduct confidential and effective interviews with donors to obtain necessary information regarding suitability to donate plasma. Respond to medically related questions from staff regarding donor suitability and provide information on medically related issues. Perform medical history reviews and health assessments on donors. Assess donor screening and laboratory test results to determine initial and continuing donor suitability. Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results. Refer donors to community facilities for follow-up and counseling. Explain informed consent to applicant donors, including procedures, hazards, adverse events, immunization schedules, doses and antibody responses, provide opportunity to refuse participation, and obtain signatures. Handle medical emergencies at the center by providing routine care as outlined in SOPs; elevate situations to the center physician or local medical service providers as required. Periodic check emergency kits to assure supplies are present and in-date. Review test results and determine continued donor suitability following SOP ranges for four‑month required tests (PE/STS). Maintain knowledge of four‑month approvals and grace periods. Assess signs and symptoms that may preclude continued donation. Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper‑immune programs at the center and oversee donor immunization programs. Review antibody titer results as required. Maintain appropriate immunization schedule for each antigen. Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in SOPs. Maintain a clean, efficient work environment; ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms. Follow all HSE and OSHA policies and procedures. Promote safety in all actions. Conduct routine audits of internal procedures and documentation. Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information. Cross‑train in other areas to meet business needs. Bilingual skills may be required. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduated from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic medical training program; if graduated from a foreign allopathic or osteopathic medical school, must also be licensed as a physician or hold state certification as an EMT. Minimum of one (1) year experience in a health care environment. Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred. Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment (heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc.). Ability to instruct donors, staff, and community regarding the benefit of plasma donation programs. Working Conditions Ability to make decisions with moderate impact on immediate work unit. Understand, remember, and apply oral and written instructions. Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation. Occasionally perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of time. Examine and assess skin and other abnormalities through sight, touch, and smell. Reach, bend, kneel, and have high manual dexterity. Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions. Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood‑borne pathogens. Required to wear personal protective equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas. Required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.
