Associate Engineer

Associate Engineer Position in the Public Works Department. Responsibilities Design civil engineering/site infrastructure and maintenance construction projects. Perform professional engineering calculations. Prepare and obtain permits. Conduct pre‑bid conferences and advisory meetings, submit projects for bid process. Consult with state and local agencies and utility companies on project designs. Compile data, prepare monthly reports, and make oral presentations on design and construction projects. Inspect construction sites to determine conformance to design specifications. Write inspection reports for compliance with design specifications. Operate a motor vehicle to conduct field inspections. Demonstrate proficiency in the City of Jacksonville's competencies. Perform related work as required. Qualifications Ability to plan, design, implement and manage construction and related projects. Ability to perform necessary engineering and construction cost estimating calculations; general knowledge of construction procedures. Ability to apply engineering principles and methods. Ability to draft bid specifications and gather and evaluate bid data. Ability to field inspections at project sites to gather design information or determine conformance to design specifications. Ability to interpret, review and/or prepare technical reports. Ability to perform professional engineering calculations. Ability to communicate effectively, including developing and presenting information. Ability to read, write and speak English. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Experience Six (6) years combination of education and/or experience in civil engineering with roadway, drainage, and site design projects, which consist of: A degree from (EAC/ABET or EAC/M‑ABET) – Accredited engineering curriculum of four (4) years or more in a discipline pertinent to the position. Eight (8) years of responsible engineering experience, three (3) years of which must be pertinent to the position and must have passed Part I or Part II of the Florida Board of Professional Engineer examination. Licensing/Certification/Registration A valid Florida Driver's License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment. City of Jacksonville Public Driver Certification is required prior to appointment and must be maintained. Other Requirements The probationary period for this class is six (6) months. Veterans and Service Members Preference Veterans, service members, spouses, and family members of such service members and veterans receive preference and priority.
