Job Title: Coating Technician

Pay: 21-23 / hour

Shift: 6 am Start Time - 10 hour shifts with 2 breaks and lunch

Job Description

The Coating Technician prepares, operates, and maintains optical coating equipment to produce high-quality coated parts in a cleanroom environment. This role follows standard operating procedures, performs detailed inspections and measurements, and supports process optimization while working closely with engineering and production teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform setups and complete checklist steps required to prepare coating chambers for standard operation.
• Independently operate coating production equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures, run sheets, and routings.
• Communicate any changes to equipment setup or programming to engineering and/or the supervisor to ensure accurate documentation and process control.
• Assist engineers with the optimization and development of new coating processes and procedures.
• Conduct a wide variety of preventative maintenance procedures on coating equipment and related fixtures.
• Set up, load, unload, and maintain coating fixtures to ensure safe and efficient production.
• Perform visual inspections of pre-coated and post-coated optics to identify defects and verify quality standards.
• Measure finished parts using a variety of metrology equipment to confirm dimensional and quality requirements.
• Assist in the creation and revision of work instructions, ensuring they accurately reflect current processes and best practices.
• Become proficient with all coating chambers through cross-training and ongoing skill development.
• Follow quality control and quality assurance practices, including final inspection, to maintain consistent product quality.
• Document work performed and inspection results accurately and clearly as required by internal procedures.

Essential Skills

• Previous manufacturing experience, ideally in machine operation such as CNC or general production.
• Proficiency using computers to operate equipment, follow electronic work instructions, and record data.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong manual dexterity to handle small components and fixtures safely and accurately.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds as part of daily tasks.
• Experience with inspection and quality inspection practices.
• Ability to perform visual inspection and final inspection of parts for defects.
• Familiarity with quality control and quality assurance processes.
• Experience using basic measurement tools such as gages and micrometers.
• Comfort working with microscopes and microscope inspection for detailed evaluation of parts.
• Understanding of good manufacturing practices (GMP) in a production environment.

• Willingness to cross-train and become proficient with multiple coating chambers and processes.

Work Environment

The role is based in an indoor, air-conditioned facility with a very small, close-knit team. Work takes place inside a cleanroom, where a lab coat is provided and must be worn. The dress code requires closed-toed shoes and long pants; jewelry and nails are allowed, but makeup is not permitted in the cleanroom to maintain cleanliness standards. The environment supports precision work with optical components and metrology equipment, and you will collaborate closely with a friendly, supportive group that values teamwork and clear communication.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oldsmar, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
