Switchboard Operator
The Switchboard Operator facilitates all telecommunications within the hospital. Receives and directs incoming calls to the appropriate party in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
- Routes all incoming calls to specified areas in a professional manner.
- Provides appropriate information to callers.
- Performs overhead paging.
- Provides paging services.
- Assigns pagers upon request.
- Initiates the response for all code situations.
- Monitors and operates multiple alarm systems.
- Assists with the edits to the on-call physician schedule.
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality at all times.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required, any higher education from an accredited college will supersede this requirement.
Licensure/Certification: None.
Experience: At least one year of experience in a hospital environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Clear speaking voice.
- Ability to speak, read, write and communicate effectively in English.
- Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.
