Temporary Manager On Duty

The Temporary Manager On Duty is responsible for providing day-to-day operational leadership at Dakota Station Convenience Store by supporting employees, maintaining customer service standards, and ensuring store operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with store policies and procedures.

This temporary assignment is intended to provide management coverage and operational continuity while maintaining appropriate oversight by the Store Manager or designated supervisor. Flexibility to work varying shifts, weekends, holidays, and rotating on-call hours as needed.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

During the temporary appointment, the Manager On Duty may be responsible for the following:

Daily Store Operations

• Serve as the designated manager or leadership representative during assigned shifts.
• Ensure the store is properly opened, operated, and closed.
• Monitor daily operations to ensure adequate staffing and workflow.
• Ensure merchandise is properly stocked, displayed, priced, and rotated.
• Monitor cleanliness and organization of the sales floor, stock areas, coolers, freezers, and other operational areas.
• Address operational issues and communicate significant concerns to the Store Manager.
• Ensure required logs, checklists, and operational records are completed accurately.

Employee Supervision

• Provide day-to-day direction to employees during assigned shifts.
• Assign duties and responsibilities based on operational needs.
• Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, work performance, and adherence to store procedures.
• Provide coaching and immediate feedback when appropriate.
• Recognize positive employee performance.
• Report significant performance, attendance, conduct, or employee relations concerns to the Store Manager and/or Human Resources.
• Assist with employee training and onboarding activities.

The Temporary MOD does not have authority to make permanent employment decisions unless specifically delegated by the Store Manager.

Customer Service

• Promote professional, respectful, and responsive customer service.
• Address customer concerns and complaints in accordance with organizational procedures.
• Resolve routine customer service issues within delegated authority.
• Escalate significant complaints or unresolved concerns to the Store Manager.

Cash Handling And Financial Controls

• Follow all established cash-handling, point-of-sale, and deposit procedures.
• Monitor cash registers and assigned cashiers.
• Ensure required cash counts and reconciliations are completed.
• Report cash shortages, overages, suspected theft, or irregular transactions promptly.
• Maintain confidentiality of financial and business information.
• Follow established procedures for refunds, voids, discounts, and other transactions requiring management approval.

Safety, Security, And Compliance

• Promote a safe working environment for employees and customers.
• Ensure employees follow safety procedures and organizational policies.
• Immediately address known safety hazards when possible.
• Report workplace injuries, accidents, security incidents, and other significant events according to organizational procedures.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, licensing, and regulatory requirements applicable to store operations.
• Support compliance with tobacco, alcohol, age-restricted product, and other applicable sales requirements, as applicable to the store.
• Ensure emergency procedures are followed when necessary.

Inventory And Merchandise

• Assist with receiving, stocking, inventory control, and merchandise rotation.
• Monitor inventory levels and identify potential shortages or ordering needs.
• Assist with inventory counts and reconciliation.
• Report damaged, expired, missing, or improperly received merchandise.
• Follow established procedures for product loss prevention and inventory control.

Scheduling And Coverage

• The Temporary MOD may be assigned to designated shifts requiring management coverage.
• When the Temporary MOD is not scheduled or is unavailable, management responsibilities shall revert to the Store Manager or another employee formally designated by management.
• The Temporary MOD is not automatically responsible for store operations outside their assigned working hours.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) or more years of retail, convenience store, food service, or customer service experience.
• Willingness to learn store operations through hands-on training, supervision, and manager guidance.
• Ability to provide excellent customer service and communicate professionally with customers, staff, and vendors.
• Basic POS, cash handling, computer, and recordkeeping skills, or ability to learn.
• Ability to follow policies, procedures, safety standards, and confidentiality requirements.
• Strong reliability, teamwork, organization, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to support staff, lead by example, and assist with daily store operations.
• Willingness to attend and complete required trainings, including food handler certification.
• Flexibility to work varying shifts, weekends, holidays, and rotating on-call hours as needed.
• Sensitivity to Native American culture and ability to work within the existing government structure.
• Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to walk, stand or sit for long periods throughout the day
• Must be able to stand or walk up to ten hours per day regularly
• Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to push, pull and grasp objects routinely
• Must be able to bend and crouch frequently

Required Training

• Harassment training
• Any position-related training as determined by department manager

Working Environment

• Work is performed primarily in a convenience store setting, but may include occasional outdoor activities
