About This Role We are looking for a calm, firm, and caring Restorative Team Member who believes in the potential of every child. This role is not about managing behavior through punishment — it is about building relationships, repairing harm, and helping students develop the social‑emotional skills they need to thrive. Our school serves students ages 5 to 14 (K–8). You will work closely with students at all grade levels, partnering with teachers, counselors, and school leadership to create a safe, structured, and restorative school culture. If you believe in the dignity of every child and know how to hold boundaries with warmth, this role is for you. You will join a restorative team of five, which includes two Assistant Deans. The team is directly supported by the Director of Student Supports & Culture and the Head of School. You will not be working alone — you will be part of a coordinated, mission‑aligned team that has your back. Key Responsibilities Build authentic, trusting relationships with students across all grade levels (K–8) Respond to behavioral incidents with a restorative, relationship‑first approach — de‑escalate calmly and consistently Facilitate restorative conversations, check‑ins, and re‑entry meetings with students and staff Support students in the restorative room with structured, intentional programming — not a punitive waiting area Partner with teachers to identify students in need of proactive support before behaviors escalated Collaborate with school counselors, the Director of Student Supports, and administration on individual student plans Maintain accurate documentation of incidents, interventions, and student contacts Participate in morning circles (launching 2026–2027) and school‑wide culture initiatives Communicate proactively with families in a warm, professional manner Model calm, regulated adult behavior — especially in moments of high student dysregulation Support PBIS systems and school‑wide positive behavior reinforcement frameworks Qualifications Required: High school diploma or equivalent (associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred) Experience working with children or youth — ages 5–14 strongly preferred Demonstrated ability to remain calm, firm, and fair under pressure Genuine belief in the restorative approach: relationships before consequences Strong communication skills with students, families, and colleagues Preferred: Experience in foster care, juvenile services, residential facilities, youth mentorship, or school settings Familiarity with trauma‑informed care, PBIS, or restorative practices Bilingual (English/Spanish) a strong plus Experience working in urban schools or with high‑need student populations What We’re Looking For The best restorative team members we know share a few things in common: They are not angry disciplinarians — they are steady, regulated adults who kids trust They know how to set a firm limit and still make a child feel seen They ask “what happened?” before “what did you do wrong?” They understand child and adolescent development — and meet students where they are They build relationships before crises happen, not just during themThey show up consistently, because consistency is what our students need most Professional Development & Support Matchbook Learning invests in every person on our team. As a Restorative Team Member, you will receive: Onboarding and ongoing training in restorative practices, trauma‑informed care, and PBIS Regular check‑ins and coaching from the Director of Student Supports & Culture Collaboration with two Assistant Deans and a dedicated restorative team of five Morning circle coaching and support (K–8) launching 2026–2027 Full access to our bilingual staff and MLL support systems You will not go it alone. Our full support structure includes: Director of Student Supports & Culture Head of School Two Assistant Deans Two School Counselors MLL Director and two MLL Academic Specialists Special Education Coordinator and a large, dedicated Special Education team Instructional Coaches embedded throughout the school Large bilingual staff throughout the building — a genuinely welcoming environment for Spanish‑speaking students and families A Whole‑Child School All students K–8 at Matchbook Learning receive Music, Physical Education, PLTW (Project Lead The Way), and College & Career Readiness classes as part of their school day. Our students graduate eighth grade having already chosen a career pathway — entering high school with purpose, direction, and skills ready for today’s workforce.
