The Corporate Safety Training Compliance Specialist supports compliance and training initiatives under the direct supervision of the Corporate Safety Compliance Manager. This role balances on-site assessments with administrative reporting to ensure consistent compliance with Rumpke written training programs and training facilitation. The Corporate Safety Training Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting all safety training, including NHO, ELDT, and Equipment.

 

Responsibilities of Position:

• Deliver field training and support training initiatives
• Conduct audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory investigations
• Balance compliance and training priorities
• Train new supervisors and managers throughout the regions on safety programs and the leadership on-the-job training program
• Support accident and injury investigations, focusing on remedial training opportunities and completion
• Lead Corporate Safety Excellence Reviews (SERs) and contribute to corrective action planning
• Lead all safety training audits; provide support to region safety trainers
• Coach, mentor, and direct support to region safety teams, safety supervisors/trainers, and managers to ensure training is effective and sustainable
• Identify training opportunities for operational improvement during SERs and share best practices across sites to standardize and elevate safety performance
• Support developing, updating, and implementing safety compliance-related policies and procedures
• Participate in training content review for NHO, Monthly In-Services, Safety Campaigns, and Job Hazard Analysis
• Provide regulatory-related data, audit results, and field support as needed
• Participate in serious incident and injury investigations involving off-road and manufacturing equipment, providing remedial training recommendations
• Participate in quarterly landfill tours across the company
• Attend Safety standdowns quarterly, assisting the region safety when needed
• Assist as back up for the TPR entry and ELDT Trainee Tracking to gauge the success of the ELDT program
• Perform other duties as assigned

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

• This position will not manage employees

 

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

• Must have ability to train others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner
• Ability to build strong working relationships, acting as daily ambassador, with site-level teams to foster trust, accountability, and ownership of safe work practices
• Must possess strong planning/organizational and time management skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers and encourage engagement
• Knowledge and understanding of the mechanical functions of commercial vehicles and equipment
• Computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications, Microsoft applications, PowerBI, and Outlook applications a plus
• Ability to operate a commercial vehicle in accordance with DOT regulations/compliance
• Strong investigative skills required

 

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

• 3 – 5 years of field safety, safety compliance, or auditing experience
• Must have knowledge of DOT regulations and safety compliance as they relate to the waste hauling industry
• Knowledge of the waste industry and hauling operations is a plus
• CDL class with 2 years of driving experience is preferred
• Bachelor's degree preferred or a combination of education and experience in the industry

 

• Ability to obtain and maintain OSHA and DOT certifications along with Smith System Trainer certification

 

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

• Frequently lifting/carrying a max of 10 lbs

• Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 20 lbs

• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs

• Frequently working outside in changing temperatures; occasionally in wet/humid conditions

• Frequently working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter

• Rarely stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Rarely climbing and/or balancing
• Frequently sitting; occasionally standing/walking

 

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
