Job Title Project Manager 4 (PM4) Department Planning, Design, and Construction Location Austin, TX Weekly Scheduled Hours 40 Job Summary Senior project manager (PM) with medical project management experience to provide professional project management and leadership for major Capital Improvement Program (CIP, >$10M TPC) projects at UT Austin for highly technical, mission critical, and sensitive project types. Critical for delivery of projects including a $1.3 billion hospital project with MD Anderson Cancer Center and multiple time‑critical enabling projects. Responsibilities Lead complex projects involving planning, design and execution of major higher education capital projects by providing project leadership, communication, coordination and conflict resolution to ensure project goals are met. May also be responsible for managing select projects as assigned by the Associate Director depending on resource needs. Responsible for project budget, schedule, and procurement of design and construction services. Assist Project Managers to drive progress of consultants to achieve expected functionality; recommend alternatives to recover negative float; facilitate timely decisions by campus representatives; report progress and issues impacting the project goals to stakeholders; oversee project managers’ efforts to manage project from initiation through completion of construction. Advocate with integrity for the campus contract negotiations. Review and approve design and construction contracts, changes, technical service contracts, Guaranteed Maximum Price submittals, bid documents, pay applications, etc.; facilitate UT Austin and UT System approvals as required. During construction, direct and/or provide support to Project Team, Construction Administrators, and institution staff in management of construction activities and processes. Assist Project Managers in applying UT Austin Capital Planning and Construction project control processes to track progress; mitigate risks; and assure compliance with Board of Regents Rules, Regulations and applicable State and Federal statutes and regulations. Stay current in Codes and Regulations applicable to design and construction, including International Building Codes, NFPA101, TDLR, OSHA, ADA, ASHRAE90.1, SWPPP, and any special requirements of the building type (e.g., healthcare, research labs, special campus project types, etc.) or the local jurisdictions. Support UT Austin in pre‑project planning activities, including Capital Improvement Plan preparation and Board of Regents and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board submittals and approval processes. Participate in or lead process improvement initiatives as assigned by the Assistant Director. Other related functions as assigned. Collaborate with other UT Austin colleagues to initiate and develop process improvements. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or related discipline. 10 or more years of experience providing project management of design and construction activities for renovations and new construction, including institutional or commercial facilities. 3 or more years of experience providing project management of capital projects with a Total Project Cost of $10M or more. Experience managing design and construction for projects in the medical/healthcare industry as the owner's representative. Working knowledge of contract documents (plans, specifications). Experience negotiating construction contracts. Working knowledge of life safety and building codes including NFPA101, IBC, ASHRAE, Texas Accessibility Standards, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, among others. Experience using Excel, Microsoft Word, and scheduling software such as MS Project. Excellent communication, collaboration and organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple simultaneous activities in a varied and complex environment. Preferred Qualifications Licensed Architect or Engineer in the State of Texas, or licensure in another state and eligible for reciprocity with the State of Texas, or ability to obtain professional licensure in the State of Texas within two years. Experience managing design and construction for projects in a higher education setting as the owner's representative. 10 or more years of experience providing project management of major capital projects with a Total Project Cost of $10M or more. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or other similar demonstration of formal project management training. Additional Requirements This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three‑year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre‑employment, post‑accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return‑to‑duty, and follow‑up drug and alcohol testing). Salary Range $132,000 + depending on qualifications.
