Location: Summit, NJ
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–7:00 PM (45 hours/week), with occasional flexibility for additional hours for date nights or weekends

Rate: $35-40/hour (Possibly flexible DOE)

About the Role

A busy family with four young children, a full-time nanny, and a friendly dog is seeking an experienced, proactive Housekeeper / Family Assistant to become a long-term member of their household team.

This is primarily a housekeeping and household management position , working alongside the family’s full-time nanny. The ideal candidate is highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and takes genuine pride in maintaining a clean, orderly, and well-functioning home.

The family is looking for someone who naturally notices what needs to be done, takes initiative without needing constant direction, and can effectively manage their time and priorities throughout the day.

While childcare is part of the role, this is not a traditional nanny position . The family’s full-time nanny is primarily responsible for childcare, while this position focuses on the overall care and organization of the home, with childcare support as needed.

What Success Looks Like

At the end of a typical day:

• Beds have been made and bedrooms are tidy and orderly
• The kitchen has been cleaned and fully reset
• Laundry has been washed, folded, and put away
• Bottles and dishes are clean and put away
• Common living spaces are tidy and welcoming
• Pantry and household supplies are organized and stocked
• Groceries have been put away and the refrigerator is organized
• School lunches and simple family meals have been prepared
• Toys and children’s spaces have been reset
• The household is prepared for the following day because priorities have been anticipated and handled proactively

Most importantly, the successful candidate will take ownership of the home and recognize what needs attention without waiting to be asked.

Responsibilities

Household Management

• Take primary responsibility for the day-to-day operation and upkeep of the home, including adult and children’s spaces
• Maintain bedrooms by making beds, tidying, organizing, and keeping spaces clean and orderly
• Manage laundry for the entire family, including garment care, stain treatment, folding, steaming as needed, organizing closets and dressers, and changing bed linens when needed
• Maintain and reset common areas throughout the day, including the family room, kitchen, and playroom
• Maintain the kitchen throughout the day, including loading/unloading the dishwasher, handwashing necessary dishes and bottles, wiping counters and appliances, taking out trash and recycling, organizing cabinets and pantry areas, and fully resetting the kitchen after meals
• Organize pantries, closets, cabinets, playrooms, and other household storage areas
• Monitor household inventory and proactively order cleaning supplies, paper products, laundry and dish supplies, diapers, formula, and other household essentials
• Receive and unpack household deliveries, put items away appropriately, and break down boxes for recycling
• Run household errands as needed
• Coordinate vendors, deliveries, and household appointments as needed
• Lead periodic household organization projects, including seasonal clothing rotations, organizing children’s belongings, preparing items for donation or storage, organizing seasonal décor, and maintaining orderly storage areas
• Identify opportunities to improve household organization and day-to-day efficiency

Meal Preparation

• Place the weekly grocery order and additional orders as needed
• Prepare simple, healthy family dinners 3–4 times per week
• Prepare school lunches and snacks daily
• Keep the kitchen organized, clean, and well stocked

Family Support

Working alongside the family’s full-time nanny, responsibilities may include:

• School and activity pickups and drop-offs as needed
• Caring for the baby and/or toddler while the nanny is transporting or caring for the older children
• Assisting with after-school routines and transitions
• Providing supervision and care when an additional adult is needed
• Preparing bottles, snacks, lunches, backpacks, and other child-related items
• Providing an extra set of hands as the family’s needs shift throughout the day

• You communicate openly and are comfortable working as part of a household team
