Sr Residential Care Counselor

SUMMARY

Under the direction of a Residential Supervisor, this role is responsible for the care and safety of assigned children. As a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, the responder assumes the primary residential care counselor role with responsibility for contributing to the formulation and implementation of a therapeutic milieu treatment plan, observing, and documenting the program. Provides services to children and adolescents. RESPONSIBILITIES

Milieu Care: Participates in developing the milieu care plan; supervises daily routines and assists with activities of daily living; identifies and resolves potential problems; documents incidents and follows up as required; intervenes in disruptive situations. Policy & Certification: Adheres to hospital, departmental, and unit policies; attends peer review and staff meetings; maintains certifications in crisis management, CPR, OSHA, ERS, and safety. Patient Care Planning: Actively participates in the care planning process; participates in admission, therapeutic alliance building, and transition processes; communicates treatment plans; participates in conferences, rounds, and reporting; supports QI indicators; documents observations; participates in data collection. Behavioral Management & Activity Facilitation: Supports development of milieu therapy care plans; teaches and supervises patients with ADLs; leads community and social skill groups; organizes house activities; coordinates children’s physical and social development activities; arranges transportation and materials as needed; participates in family training; supports recreation therapy; handles crises safely. Leadership & Teaching: Demonstrates autonomous functioning and crisis management; assumes leadership in emergencies; suggests innovative changes; organizes therapeutic activities; provides guidance and supervision to junior staff; orients new patients, interns, and volunteers; reports development; communicates concerns; resolves conflicts; serves as Milieu Facilitator as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Knowledge: Baccalaureate degree in a human services field (or equivalent education and experience). Demonstrated knowledge and skills in caring for patients throughout their life span, considering aging, development, and cultural patterns. Experience: Three years working with emotionally/behaviorally disturbed children and adolescents, demonstrating progressive responsibility and leadership. Certification: Current Bradley Hospital crisis management certification, CPR certification, and ERS/OSHA and safety certifications. Supervisory Responsibility: None.
