Job Description A (Registered) Sleep Technologist Polysomnography, also known as a Registered Sleep Technologist, works under the general supervision of the Sleep Medical Director, Sleep Center Manager or designeeto provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center, inpatient, diagnostic, therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. A Registered Sleep Technologist is able to perform the duties defined for a Sleep Technologist and is able to provide minimal oversight of other sleep center staff. The sleep technologist is credentialed in sleep technology. Responsibilities Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient- specific needs (Physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine finaltesting. parameters/procedures in conjunction with the physician’s orders and other documentation.Follows our procedural protocols to ensure the appropriate data collection. Applies surface electrodes to the patient according to procedure protocols and accepted published standards. Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to thepatient. Maintains, prepares and calibrates all the equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signal and makes and documents adjustments ifnecessary. Monitors the recording while routinely documenting observations, changes in procedure, and significant events to facilitate scoring. Performs the correct calibrations and “Lights out” and “Lights on “ procedures. Must be able to follow protocols and initiate the correct intervention for the health and safety of thepatient. Oversees and performs difficult pediatric polysomnographic procedures and therapeutic interventions. Provides instruction and education to the sleep disorder patient population. Serves as C-PAP clinical liaison asrequired. Scores recordings and clinical events based on accepted professional guidelines and prints reportsbasedon Sleep Centerprotocols.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Over sees the work of Sleep Technicians during night shift and assists in theirtraining. Qualifications Education and/or Experience Required: Education Required: High School Diploma Education and/or Experience Preferred: Education Preferred: 2 years college preferred. Experience Preferred: Healthcare and Pediatric experience a plus. RT/CRT experience is a plus. License and/or Certification Required: CPR or BLS Healthcare certification within 1 month of hire and maintained thereafter] Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, Certified Polysomnographic Technologists or a RT or CRT Sleep Disorders Specialty as well as complying with all certification requirements. RPSGT, CPGST or Certification by National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) either CRT-SDS or RRT-SDS. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Policies and procedures related to functional units supported to include Hospital and Sleep Center. Respond to sleep patient’s procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriateinformation. Adhere to sleep center policies related to qualityassurance. Evaluate sleep study related equipment andinventory. Review and evaluate sleep studies and provide feedback tostaff. Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and applypolicy. Comply with professional standards and code ofconduct. Assist the medical director and/or manager in some aspects of sleep centeroperations. Ability to: Multi-task Handle a fast paced, high volumeenvironment, Work in a team environment alongside multipledisciplines Provide guidance and training topeers Demonstrated experience in responding to unanticipated problems with equipment orpatients during nightshift. Familiar with microcomputers and Windows-based software programs. Demonstrated ability to facilitate patient-orientedservices.
