Job Details Location: Blood Bank - Memphis, TN 38103 Position Type: Full Time Job Shift: Evening Education Level: 4 Year Degree Travel Percentage: None Job Category: Laboratory Services – Blood Bank Benefits Sign‑On Bonus for new hires who apply directly to ROH. Responsibilities Perform clinical lab tests and procedures for specimen procurement, examination, and analysis, including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood gases, cardiac testing, transfusion testing, CBC with Diff, PT, PTT, glucose, lactate, acetaminophen, pregnancy, BMP, microbiology procedures, and waived testing per CLIA standards. Prepare blood samples for diagnostic testing by adding the specified preservative or anti‑coagulant. Determine specimen acceptability via visual inspection or abnormal results and document unacceptable specimens. Receive and process patient specimens, including centrifugation, inoculations of media, and preparation/staining of smears and plates. Analyze and read lab test results, perform quality control, and report results in a timely manner, including patient history and clinical condition. Record and report clinical test results to a permanent log and route laboratory reports to the patient’s area as needed. Use patient computer systems and the laboratory information system to enter and retrieve patient data and lab results. Interact and collaborate with nursing units, maintaining communication regarding stats, abnormal results, and prolonged instrument malfunctions. Prepare and maintain required records, reports, and files for administrative and compliance purposes. Comply with state and regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and safety, infection control, and environmental standards. Maintain equipment, instruments and supplies; perform equipment checks, recognize malfunctions, and initiate corrective action. Provide instruction, assign duties, and supervise medical lab technicians (MLT) and other support personnel; assist with orientation and supervision of new staff members and students. Complete required continuous training and education; participate in unit‑based performance improvement activities. Provide coverage for relief and absences, demonstrating flexibility for night, weekend, and holiday coverage; provide on‑call and callback coverage as required. Qualifications Graduate of an approved Medical Technology program. Qualified by education, training, or experience to work with neonate, infant, toddler, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patient populations as the specialty assignment dictates. Medical Technologist licensure through the State of TN within 120 days. Experience in patient care acquired through completion of an approved Medical Technology program.
