ASCP Surgical Technologist - OB/Nursery
Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as a Surgical Technologist specializing in OB/Nursery care. This role involves collaborating closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and other surgical staff to ensure patient safety and support throughout surgical procedures.
General Summary: As a Surgical Technologist, you will utilize sterile techniques and specialized equipment to assist in surgeries, particularly C-sections in Labor & Delivery. Your responsibilities include preparing and maintaining sterile environments, anticipating surgical team needs, and managing surgical instruments and supplies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with surgical procedures in the Labor & Delivery operating room, including C-sections.
- Prepare and maintain sterile surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring proper setup and cleanliness.
- Coordinate inventory and supply management with sterile processing teams.
- Demonstrate proficiency in aseptic and scrub techniques.
- Support patient care by performing nursing aide duties such as vital signs, specimen collection, and postpartum care.
- Maintain cleanliness and stocking of OB/Nursery areas and equipment.
- Communicate effectively regarding patient condition changes to appropriate personnel.
Education: Graduation from an accredited Nursing, Practical Nurse, or Surgical Technologist program is required. Candidates with CNA certification and documented cross-training as a scrub tech are encouraged to apply.
Experience: Prior experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Nurse is preferred but not mandatory. Surgical Assistants should have at least three years of scrub experience.
Certification/License: Training in surgical scrub techniques and completion of scrub tech orientation in both OR and OB settings are required. American Heart Association BLS certification must be obtained prior to orientation completion. Certification as a CST is preferred.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This role demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, and various physical movements such as stooping and reaching.
Working Conditions: Expect frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, as well as occasional interactions with challenging individuals. Minimal physical discomfort is anticipated.
