Healthcare Software Tester / QA Specialist (Healthcare Experience Preferred)

Location: La Palma, California — Local candidates preferred within approximately 5 to 10 miles
Work Arrangement: Part-Time / Contract; On-Site preferred
Training: In-person in La Palma preferred
(A) About PillarThera:
PillarThera is an AI-powered home-based care platform designed to connect patients, independent healthcare providers, and healthcare agencies while simplifying care coordination & delivery, clinical documentation, scheduling, compliance, billing, and claims workflows.
The platform supports healthcare professionals including:
- Physical Therapists (PT)
- Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA)
- Occupational Therapists (OT)
- Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA)
- Speech Therapists / Speech-Language Pathologists (ST/SLP)
- Registered Nurses (RN)
- Licensed Vocational Nurses / Licensed Practical Nurses (LVN/LPN)
- Nurse Practitioners (NP)
- Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA)
- Caregivers
We are looking for a hands-on Healthcare Software Tester / QA Specialist who can test PillarThera (Website, Android, and iOS) from the perspective of real healthcare users.
(B) Who We Are Looking For:
We strongly prefer candidates who have worked in the healthcare industry and have hands-on experience using healthcare software.
Note: You do not need to be a software developer or professional QA engineer.
Ideal candidates may have experience as a healthcare provider, medical biller, healthcare administrator, agency staff member, clinical coordinator, intake specialist, authorization specialist, or similar healthcare professional.
Experience using healthcare software for any of the following is especially valuable:
- Patient intake and registration
- Healthcare provider or agency account registration and administration
- Electronic medical records or healthcare management systems
- Scheduling and patient visits
- Clinical documentation - AI automation and manual review
- Plan of Care (POC) workflow - preparation, submission, certification, tracking, approval/rejection.
- Insurance eligibility or benefits verification
- Prior authorization
- Medical billing and claims submission
- Claims status and payment tracking
- Provider credentialing
- Electronic signatures and healthcare documents
- Home health, therapy, skilled nursing, or caregiving workflows
(C) What You Will Test:
You will test PillarThera from different user roles and follow realistic healthcare workflows through the system.
Depending on the testing assignment, this may include:
(C1) Patient Portal
Testing patient registration, profile setup, insurance information, service requests, provider search and matching, scheduling, documents, payments, messaging, and other patient functions.
(C2) Provider Portal
Testing provider registration, professional credentials, license and NPI information, patient/case workflows, scheduling, clinical documentation, visit-related functions, billing, claims, payments, and other provider functions.
(C3) Agency Portal
Testing agency registration and setup, administrators, provider/workforce management, patient management, credentialing, case assignments, documentation, claims, billing, compliance, and agency workflows.
(D) Key Responsibilities:
You will:
- Follow provided test scenarios and test PillarThera functions step by step.
- Test the system from different user roles.
- Create realistic test accounts and test data when instructed.
- Verify whether each function works as expected.
- Identify bugs, confusing workflows, missing information, incorrect calculations, or unexpected system behavior.
- Evaluate whether workflows make sense from a healthcare user's perspective.
- Test on common web browsers and devices when requested.
- Re-test functions after developers make corrections.
- Clearly identify whether an issue has been fixed or still exists.
- Provide practical feedback on usability and healthcare workflow.
- Participate in training and testing meetings in person or through Google Meet.
(E) Test Reporting:
Candidates should be comfortable preparing short, clear test reports. You do not need to write lengthy technical reports.
For each issue, you should be able to document:
- User Role being tested
- Function / Page being tested
- Test steps
- Expected result
- Actual result
- Pass / Fail
- Description of the problem
- Screenshot or screen recording showing the issue
- Recommended correction or expected behavior, when applicable
- Re-test result after the issue is corrected
You should be comfortable using Word files on Google Drive, screenshot and screen-recording tools and sharing the results with our development team.
(F) Required Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience using computers, websites, and healthcare software applications.
- Comfortable learning and testing a new web-based healthcare platform.
- Able to follow workflows and written testing instructions and results carefully.
- Detail-oriented and able to recognize when software behavior does not match the expected workflow.
- Able to clearly describe software problems in writing.
- Able to capture and share screenshots and/or short screen recordings.
- Able to organize testing results by function and user role.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable communicating with the PillarThera product and development teams.
(G) Healthcare Experience — Strongly Preferred
We strongly prefer candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy
- Skilled nursing
- Home health
- Home care/caregiving
- Medical billing and claims
- Insurance authorization
- Healthcare administration
- Patient intake and scheduling
- Provider credentialing
- Clinical documentation
Licensed or experienced healthcare professionals—including PT, PTA, OT, OTA, ST/SLP, RN, LVN/LPN, NP, CNA, and caregivers—are encouraged to apply.
Healthcare administrative professionals with strong hands-on software experience are also encouraged to apply.
(H) Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with one or more of the following is a plus:
- EHR/EMR software
- Home health or home care software
- Practice management software
- Medical billing or claims software
- Insurance eligibility and prior authorization systems
- Electronic Visit Verification (EVV)
- Clinical documentation software
- Provider credentialing systems
- CMS-1500 or electronic healthcare claims
- Healthcare scheduling systems
- Bug/issue tracking software
Formal software QA certification is not required .
(I) Location Preference:
We prefer candidates located in La Palma, California, or within approximately a 5 to 10-mile radius , because some initial training, workflow reviews, and testing sessions may be conducted in person.
Qualified candidates outside the area may also be considered. Training and testing meetings can be conducted through Google Meet when appropriate.

We value practical healthcare experience and attention to detail as much as traditional software testing experience.
