Primary Purpose


Design, implement, maintain, and support IT infrastructure for internal and external customer environments, including Windows and Linux servers, virtualization, application hosting, endpoint management, and backup and recovery systems. Proactively resolve technical issues, develop effective solutions, and collaborate with staff to maintain reliable, secure, and modern technology services.

Education/Certification

• Associate degree or equivalent experience

• Relevant industry certifications in Microsoft, virtualization, Linux, cloud or related infrastructure technologies preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Strong knowledge of systems administration and infrastructure technologies in complex, mixed-platform environments

• Experience administering Microsoft Windows Server environments and supporting technologies such as DNS, DHCP, IIS, PowerShell, certificates, and public key infrastructure (PKI)

• Experience with or working knowledge of Linux server administration

• Experience with Microsoft cloud identity and management technologies such as Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Intune

• Working knowledge of virtualization technologies and concepts; experience with VMware or similar enterprise virtualization platforms preferred

• Familiarity with enterprise backup, recovery, and disaster recovery technologies and practices

• Familiarity with web and application hosting technologies, including IIS, Apache, and related infrastructure

• Experience with scripting or automation and demonstrated ability to use scripting to improve administrative processes and solve technical problems

• Familiarity with infrastructure automation, configuration management, infrastructure-as-code, APIs, Gitlab, or similar modern infrastructure management practices preferred

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to independently investigate unfamiliar technical problems and develop effective solutions

• Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies, platforms, and methods as infrastructure and organizational needs evolve

• Ability to independently plan, prioritize, and own technical projects from identification of need through implementation and ongoing support

• Ability to recognize when collaboration or additional expertise is needed and effectively communicate technical work, risks, decisions, and progress with team members

• Strong technical documentation, written communication, and oral communication skills

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Experience

• Five years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or a related information technology role preferred

• Demonstrated experience supporting production technology environments and independently troubleshooting complex systems

• Equivalent combinations of relevant experience, education, certifications, and demonstrated technical expertise may be considered

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

**This position may be partially or completely funded using grant and/or federal monies and is assigned programs to include activities designed to enhance the effective and coordinated use of funds.

• Oversee installation, testing, and issue resolution for hardware, software, and upgrades

• Administer and support server environments, cloud services, virtualization platforms, and related infrastructure

• Implement and maintain system configurations and perform systems maintenance

• Independently investigate complex technical problems and identify solutions

• Monitor and analyze system utilization; recommend improvements

• Support and oversee system and network security measures

• Plan and execute assigned technology projects while effectively communicating status, risks, and technical decisions with team members and stakeholders

• Develop and implement regular backup procedures and data restoration

• Support web hosting infrastructure and application deployment and maintenance

• Maintain documentation for client networks and systems

• Assist in developing and implementing disaster recovery plans

• Coordinate with software and hardware vendors for product support

• Develop and maintain network design and configuration documentation

• Consult with end users to identify needs, analyze specifications, and resolve problems

• Recommend acquisition of software and hardware for district needs

• Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documents

• Attend work daily in order to meet the goals and objectives of the ESC

• Perform other duties as assigned

Equipment/Specialized Software Used


Computers, projection devices, control panels in meeting rooms, printers, file servers, productivity software, software specific to the job assignment, network resources, internet resources, and other hardware and software necessary to perform the functions of the job effectively and efficiently. Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations.


Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors)

Mental: Public relations and people skills are always required, work with frequent interruptions, and maintain professional composure and confidentiality under stress.


Physical: Occasional prolonged and irregular hours, ability to move tables and chairs and load/unload boxes and materials. Prolonged use of a computer. Frequent region and state-wide travel.


Environmental: Open cubicles/workstations


Evaluation


Annual performance evaluation will be performed in accordance with the adopted policies of the Education Service Center Region 11. Employment in this position is contingent upon performance, need, and funding.
