Position Overview This position performs complex and diverse laboratory tests and records the results on materials used for district, county, local and other state agency transportation projects. Essential Functions Perform materials tests to ensure that the samples or materials conform to approved standards and/or determine properties of the samples or materials. Minimal supervision should be required while completing tasks. Become familiar with the Quality Management Program (QMP) for reporting and transferring test results. Maintain complete and accurate materials test records. Calibrate and maintain testing equipment to help ensure test results are accurate. Recommend acceptance or rejection of samples and materials tested. Assist in performing laboratory inspections at district producer labs related to Portland Cement Concrete (PCC), HMA and aggregates. Perform all duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a job-related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience OR six years of engineering experience. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of mathematics, including trigonometry and its application to field surveying and engineering computations. Working knowledge of materials testing and laboratory testing equipment. Strong oral and written communication skills. Conditions of Employment Ability to lift 50 pounds. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical. Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing in compliance with USDOT standards which prohibit the use of cannabis. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate valid driver's license.
