Phlebotomist - Inpatient/Outpatient

Overview CentraState Medical Center, located in Freehold, New Jersey, is looking for a Full‑Time Phlebotomist to work the night shift. This inpatient role involves drawing blood specimens from patients on hospital inpatient nursing units, same‑day units, pre‑admission testing, and occasionally the emergency department. The position requires a fast‑paced, customer‑focused environment with high patient volume. One year of experience; an ASCP‑certified phlebotomy technician is preferred. Responsibilities Inpatient Phlebotomist Collect blood specimens from newborns to senior citizens using venipuncture, capillary fingerstick, or heelstick. Obtain blood according to lab policy and procedure with minimal bruising. Label tubes at the patient bedside and initial them. Draw routine, STAT, and ALERT (stroke, medical response) specimens. Maintain 100% compliance with positive patient identification. Respond to various alert calls throughout the hospital campus. Assist in the specimen processing area when not on the floor, including receiving specimens from nurses, answering phones, and stocking collection supplies. Use various computer applications for patient registration and lab ordering. Practice universal precautions at all times. Respect patient confidentiality. Outpatient Phlebotomist Maintain 100% compliance with positive patient identification. Collect blood specimens from newborns to senior citizens using venipuncture, capillary fingerstick, or heelstick. Obtain blood according to lab policy and procedure with minimal bruising. Label tubes in front of patients and initial tubes. Use various computer applications for patient registration and lab ordering. Practice universal precautions at all times. Respect patient confidentiality. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Phlebotomy experience preferred (inpatient). Three years’ experience as an ASCP‑certified phlebotomy technician preferred (outreach). Certification preferred. Proficient computer skills required for registering patients and ordering lab tests. Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team. Compensation Range: $19.50 – $31.20 per hour. The range reflects the established salary for this position at the time of posting and is based on factors such as education, experience, skills, licenses, certification, and training.
