Health Unit Coordinator-Delnor Emergency Department Full Time Nights

Overview The salary range for this position is $16.60 - $24.07 hourly. Placement within the salary range is dependent on factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement is guided by the collective bargaining agreement. The Health Unit Coordinator supports the mission of NM, upholds the Code of Ethics, and complies with all relevant policies and regulations. Responsibilities include unit‑based reception, clerical, medical record, and patient registration functions, setting priorities, handling emergencies calmly, communicating with all levels of staff and patients, and managing workflow in coordination with the charge RN and/or assistant manager. Responsibilities Maintain a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor. Provide accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers. Address questions and concerns promptly or identify appropriate resources. Guide patients and customers to their destinations. Use service‑recovery skills to resolve problems. Demonstrate teamwork and help co‑workers across departments. Communicate effectively and respect diverse opinions and styles. Use organizational resources efficiently. Manage work schedule to complete tasks on time. Contribute to continuous improvement opportunities and processes. Participate in cost‑reduction and workflow‑streamlining efforts. Collaborate cooperatively with team members. Show respect for all disciplines. Coordinate all work with the Manager and Charge Nurse. Communicate clearly to Manager, Charge Nurse, co‑workers and physicians. Consult other departments for an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs. Retrieve lab results and notify the caring nurse. Interact professionally and reassure patients and families. Prepare medical records for new admissions and disassemble charts for Medical Records upon discharge. Maintain proper record assembly in chronological order behind tabs. Obtain necessary signatures and documents; be aware of Petition and Certificate processes for involuntary admissions. Transcribe and clarify orders, verify and enter them accurately into the computer. Seek learning opportunities and share knowledge from continuing education. Demonstrate computer competence for order entry, results, documentation, and policies. Operate equipment safely and correctly. Remain flexible, organized, and functional under stressful situations. Handle multiple high‑level, time‑sensitive tasks confidently. Answer telephone, monitor closed‑circuit cameras, intercom/door entry systems, and communicate information appropriately. Utilize critical‑thinking to prioritize and complete unit work quickly. Monitor patient status in the computer and correct discrepancies. Perform pre‑census and validate daily admission, discharge and census lists. Register patient in the computer. Conduct telephone screenings (inquiry calls) and ensure proper disposition while respecting confidentiality rules. Order supplies and print all patient chart forms. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Basic computer knowledge. Effective verbal and written communication in English. Ability to assess situations requiring an interpreter and use interpreter services. Excellent customer service skills.
