Registered Nurse PCU

The Registered Nurse on the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides skilled nursing care to patients with mixed acuity including Medical/Surgical Telemetry and PCU patients. This role requires expertise in telemetry, dysrhythmia management, IV protocols, wound care, and specialty procedures. The nurse collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care to patients with diverse diagnoses such as cardiac, surgical, trauma, and orthopedic conditions. Strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and recent PCU/IMC experience are essential for success in this role. Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care to PCU, Medical/Surgical Telemetry, and surgical pre/post-operative patients.
• Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
• Manage telemetry monitoring and interpret dysrhythmias.
• Administer blood products and manage central and peripheral lines including PICC lines.
• Implement IV insulin protocols and manage insulin drips.
• Provide care for feeding tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, chest tubes, and tracheostomies.
• Manage cardiac and thrombolytic drips, PCA, and oxygen therapy including HFNC and non-invasive airway support.
• Perform phlebotomy and wound care including wound vac management.
• Maintain isolation precautions and infection control standards.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams using EPIC, Pyxis, and SBAR communication tools.
• Float to sister units as required, including West 2, West 3, and Observation units.
• Participate in unit orientation and ongoing education.

• Minimum 1 year recent PCU/IMC experience within last 3 years.
• Current Registered Nurse license in state of practice.
• ACLS and BLS certifications.
• Experience with telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
• Competency in IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line care.
• Proficiency in wound care and tracheostomy management.
• Ability to manage critical care drips and emergency cardiac procedures.
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical records and Pyxis medication systems.

• PALS certification.
• Experience or certification in TCAR (TransCarotid Artery Revascularization).

• Must be able to float to sister units as needed.
• Required to work every other weekend.
• Maximum 7-day return to office (RTO) policy.
• Mixed acuity environment with ratios adjusted based on patient acuity.
• Occasional care of rare pediatric patients; travelers must have appropriate experience.
• 12-hour unit orientation required.

• 12-hour shifts with day and weekend ratios of 1:3-5 patients.
• Night shift ratios range from 1:3-7 patients.
• Shift assignments based on patient acuity and unit needs.
